I live close to this project and will try to update with some photo's. One structure which I assume is the multistory car park is already 3-4 levels complete and there is significant work completed on the main pool area.

Just wondering why they are building a medical centre there when there's already one right next door that was only built a few years ago (the one that was originally meant to be Centrelink but never actually opened as Centrelink then opened as a medical centre, before they built another new Centrelink just metres away that is open now).

All seems like a terrible waste to me. Does anyone know what went wrong and more importantly why they're now building another new medical centre?

Medical Centres are privately run. The two probably have nothing to do with each other.

The new centre will be an Australian Government-funded GP Plus centre.

Pikey, cheers for the correction!

I have often wondered why there pushing for two quite large medical centres within 100m of each other. Even if they are funded differently, it seems very inefficient.

I would assume that unless they are targeting very different client groups, that the privately funded clinic will close within a short space of time and that building will sit vacant as it did when it was originally being built for Centrelink.

Hopefully the increased density of development will see it put to good use within a short space of time.

Looking forward to having a nice swim when it opens!
Maybe use it as the swimming place for the 2036 Summer Games if Adelaide was the place!

I know this sounds childish but... are there going to be waterslides? If so they better be good ones.

Guys, the State Swimming Centre at Marion is for serious amateur/professional competition swimmers.

For water slides and a bit of a swim you need to look to the Adelaide Council's pools at North Adelaide.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

I was told by a worker at the Domain Medical Centre that the new building is a specialists centre, with extra doctors rooms.

Actually, I recollect that the press releases were talking about a large amount of "leisure water" at the new centre, although I don't think that they described what that meant.

Here are some update photo's of the GP + Centre from Friday. Sorry for the quality, were taken on my phone.

I didn't manage to get any of the pool, but will try to do so in the coming days. For a specialist centre, complimenting existing medical services, it is quite large and would seem to be a number of times larger than the Domain Medical Centre. The third picture is telling, to the right is Bunnings, in the middle (white building) is Centrelink and then to the right is the Marion Library / Function and Cultural Centre. You can see the size of it in comparison.

I have read a few articles in the Australian reporting that very few of these Centres have been started or completed, and that when completed, they do not actually increase the services offered, rather that existing GP's and Specialists move into the new premises from existing practices.
