World Tapir Day, first started by an Adelaidian to promote awareness of the Tapir species. Figured the panda's have been getting all the attention of late, it was time for other animals at the Adelaide Zoo.
When you get a chance have a listen to Nova 919's clips of artists doing their bit for the Tapirs...

Dog-mad brewers wagging their ales

Para Hills West brewers husband and wife Chris Herring and Tanya Harlow have produced a range of award-winning beers with names inspired by their pet dogs.
WHEN Tanya Harlow was a toddler, her father would store his dodgy homebrew in her nursery, often with disastrous results.
“The bottles would explode because they were so over-carbonated,” she says.
“And once they started exploding, Mum said that’s it, you get your own room.”
Surviving unscathed and watching her father experiment with different brews proved to be the start of Tanya’s lifelong love of beer.
Now 33, she and her other love, husband Chris Herring, 35, opened their own micro-brewery in an industrial shed in Para Hills West 18 months ago.
Called Beard and Brau, the award winning brewery is named after the beard and eyebrows of the Prospect couple’s beloved pet schnauzers.
All of their product names are also about dogs Golden Paw, Red Tail, Bon Chiens (Good Dogs) and the soon to be released stout Black Snout.
Finding a woman who shared his intense passion for beer was a dream come true for Chris.
“When Tanya and I were first together, the first present she asked for was a homebrew kit,” he says.
“I pretty much knew straight away I had to marry this woman.
“I reckon I got a good score.”
In its first year, Beard and Brau won two bronze medals at the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show and another at the hotly contested Perth Royal Show, which Chris calls “the micro-brew capital of the country”.
A former quality control manager for Penfolds Wines, Chris says they are driven to brew beers with more flavour than the “wet air” produced by the big breweries.
“It’s absolutely our love more than anything else because I can tell you you don’t make a lot of money out of it.”
He says setting up the brewery cost about $250,000, which would have been more if not for the help of tradie friends who were happy to be paid in beer.
Beard and Brau beers are available at more than 50 bottle shops and pubs around Adelaide.

Re: Beer Garden
That reminds me - I recently discovered the Lobethal Bierhouse's brews and am enjoying them a great deal. Especially the American Pale Ale, a right-on-the-money example of the beers that fuelled the American microbrew revival over the last 20 years. They also do some seasonal or experimental beers, which is another thing that we noticed a lot of in the States; sadly, they don't reach the bottle shop, so you'll have to go up to Lobethal to try their double-hopped IPA (until it runs out). While you're there, you can also have a meal; we didn't eat much on our brief visit, but we can recommend the Buffalo wings.

Re: Beer Garden
living 5 mins away i have made a few visits to the bierhouse and have had excellent food everytime i've been there. It's usually fairly busy as it's got a good rep amongst locals so it's wise to ring and book if it's going to be a bigger group.Prince George wrote:That reminds me - I recently discovered the Lobethal Bierhouse's brews and am enjoying them a great deal. A fair few local hills pubs now stock their beers to as well as hills restruants, the bierhouse also has a reasonable range of quality hills wines to.
Pretty sure they have Lobo cider, which if you are a cider fan is worth trying as it's a fair bit differant than most other ciders on the market.

Lobo cider is marvellous. It's more of a cloudy apple cider than the clear ones you get from everyone else.flavze wrote:Pretty sure they have Lobo cider, which if you are a cider fan is worth trying as it's a fair bit different than most other ciders on the market.

Nearmap has very good resolution aerial photography! Which aircraft takes the images? Has anyone spotted it?
If so, post a pic if you can!
