The worst example of pedestrian inequality has to be Mosely Sq, Glenelg. Pedestrians trying to cross either Colley street or Jetty Rd are faced with a sign saying "Passengers must give way to cars". This has to be the only place in the world where in a pedestrian mall, pedestians have no rights over cars. It's an absolute disgrace!

Are you really SURE that you would trust Adelaide drivers with Zebra crossings???????? I dont think its because of the State Governments "high" road standards of not having them. More to do with reducing the carnage which would happen if we had them.

One Man buses began on selected routes in the evenings and on Sundays in the late 50"s with the replacement of tram services with buses.St Peters-Kingswood,Glen Osmond-Findon were among the first to commence.I remember in the early 60"s Trolley bus services were replaced on Monday to Saturdays after 630 pm,and Sundays all day by diesel buses that were 1 man operated.Even race buses to and from Victoria Park and Cheltenham racecourses were 1 Man operated.
The Routes 16-32 Glen Osmond to Novar Gardens service in 1968 was the first bus route to be fully 1 Man operated services using Leyland Worldmaster buses 801 -816 which were specifically converted for this service.

The use of zebra crossings (which I support) would need a cultural paradym shift in behaviour which would have to be enforced till it was in the general psyche of the people. this takes time and risk during implementation - probably a reason why SA has baulked at such an idea.

There's already several around the place in Adelaide. I think they'd need to be introduced slowly, starting off with conspicuous ones with flashing yellow lights and the crossing higher than the road itself, then slowly over time introducing less and less sophisticated ones as people get use to the concept.

Agree, perhaps start with 3-4 zebra crossings along Rundle St? I think Will suggested this at some point. A permanent 25km/h speed limit along the entire street would help too.

Also, i'd like to see more of those 'walk in any direction' crossings we have at the KWS & Waymouth/Pirie intersection. Perhaps start with the intersections of Rundle St / Pulteney St and Rundle St / Frome St. Let pedestrians truly take over this corner of the CBD!

i agree. however these crossings are already present at the rundle/pultney intersection,
other good sites for these crossings:
pultney/north tce intersection
pultney/grenfell intersection
morphett/hindley intersection

Nice of those in charge to shut down Port road heading into the city to 1 lane as 10,000 people were leaving Hindmarsh stadium last night.
Woulda been nice if they had opened it up for an hour or so to let the traffic flow a bit quicker and easier, a lil thinking goes along way.

Good suggestion! Lower speed limits should be applied on busy streets in café precincts such as Rundle St., Gouger St.

Any updates on the uptake of the park 'n' ride at the Entertainment Centre and patronage on the tram extension?

I'm not typically a whinger, but the new Tram Stops along Port Rd look absolutely shite (Ent Centre terminal excluded). They don't look old, they don't look new, they are simply characterless monstrosities. Whoever designed them must be publicly ridiculed.

Great description, Wayno. I passed these today and 'characterless monstrosities' is spot on! Sadly, they detract from an otherwise excellent project.

I would like a public explanation for such a radical departure from good urban design. Ridicule, protest, action?

Hopefully, it's not too late for a re-think and re-vamp or upgrade of these pathetic and unappealing tram stops.
Perhaps sympathetic sponsorship, a student or community design challenge or other ideas from this forum?
