Adelaide Zoo : Funi and Wang Wang

#1 Post by ghs » Tue Dec 15, 2009 2:48 pm

Has anyone been to see the Panda's at the zoo ?

I am planning to go later in the week and I'll try to get some photos on here.

When I first heard about the panda's coming to adelaide I didn't think much of it but now they
are here they seem to be capturing a lot of interest.

They even made news on Perez Hilton's gossip site.

I checked it out yesterday. The panda's dont move that much so its not that exciting IMO.

Be good if they can breed them - although apparently this is not so easy which is why
there aren't many left in the world.

This is the reaction I expect from most of the public. There'll be a load of disappointed kids after all the pandemonium that the zoo's marketeers have raised.

They sound like the grizzly bears at the zoo in Seattle. They don't do anything. We got excited when one of them walked five paces! But it's still awesome to see them :)

How's this for an idea.

With the Botanic gardens near by there's enough room to expand the zoo further.
From what I understand the state government didn't fund Funi & Wang Wang.

How about the SA government spends a few million to improve the zoo. They could
import a few more exotic animals and turn it into a major tourist attraction.

Panda Cam has been setup:

I haven't checked it out yet, couldn't get it working on my pc.

http://www.giantpanda.org.au

Gave me an idea, maybe we could get some webcams setup on this site.

I went to the zoo last week, first time in about eight years, and was amazed at the difference. I thought it has improved enormously. There do seem to be less displays, but they are much better. As for the pandas, they were moving more than the tigers, which were very disappointing.

I was rather shocked at the $74 entry fee for the four of us though, I must admit.
cheers,
Rhino

I love how the zoo has been looking lately! :D And the enclosures are so much nicer.
The pandas were moving around quite a lot the other day when we were there.

Great article on Chris West, Adelaide Zoo(s) Director - his background, vision (conservation), progress and future plans for Adelaide Zoo and Monarto, including the 'Wild Africa project' ($25mill + needed) and his views on Adelaide.
Great read!

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
