I saw this in person yesterday and I have to say that this redevelopment, when coupled with the Rundle Plaza project directly opposite, is going to make for a rather cold and characterless stretch of mall. It'll be a real pity to see the old Harris Scarfe and Roger David buildings go.

I have never been so happy to see a supermarket open, its been annoying not having a major supermarket in the mall.

Maybe they go down to a new Woolworths Liquor outlet?, That is the only thing I can think off.

I'd include the underwhelming David Jones building in that criticism, too. Thank goodness for the nearby Adelaide and Regent Arcades adding a bit of spark to the area.

This is the underwhelming mall entrance, & looks like Woolworths will be liquor on ground floor behind the new tenancies, with supermarket in
basement as SRW said. I hope they make that entrance a bit more inviting.

They wont. It'll be utilitarian white and down lights which will look tacky with wear.

There is some bitter irony in the same groups of people that build faceless slabs like this then turn around and declare that the mall is dying and something must be done (by someone else with someone else's money).

I think we should reserve our judgement until it opens.

This store is meant to be similar to Harbourtown but it looks nothing like it atm.

I assume that they have factored in how many people use that Woolworths. Looks like a reasonably small opening for the level of foot traffic it has at certain times of the day.

I would assume the interior is very similar to new Woolworths, but the exterior very different. The basement area is where most of the actual supermarket items were anyways, with only confectionary, stationary and the liquor being upstairs. As long as the flow of people in and out is smooth, it should be good, even though I have doubts about that entrance in terms of design, the old entrance used to clog up very quickly with people.

Actually on second take, I like that they have the escalators in two different directions, the old set up was annoying, as you came up from the basement you had to cross over people going towards the down ramp to get to the express lines, I am a bit more positive about the layout now.....

Screw that then. If they're anything like the ones at Coles on Grote St, then I couldn't be bothered. So far they've proved to be inaccurate, and constantly flagging errors, that it's MORE time consuming than waiting at a normal checkout.

Oh, lordy, yes. 'Here's a dull box that looks exactly like the suburban shopping centres we Mall traders look down upon. Now subsidise the parking, change the pavers, add flashy coloured screens to divert attention away from our dull facades, encourage small business in laneways that we only build tenancies on because we're forced to....'

I guarantee you that a good checkout operator will have you and your shopping out of the store in less time than a self-service machine. The problem, of course, is the lack of signage directing us to the good operators and away from the bitter old tarts, your new best friend with acute word vomit, or uninterested hair-twiddling sops.
