Provision for the hotel has been included in the plans. There are 2 more pdf documents that form part of this document: http://www.aal.com.au/corporate/planning.aspx

In addition to this, there will be alowance of a corridor in the traffic management plan to provide a future light rail link to the front of the terminal

What is also interesting is that whilst this is only a prelinimary draft, according to the timelines provided some relocation of business and the GA terminal is already underway

Am i correct in saying there will be no footbridge connecting the car park to the elevated level for depatures?

That will be crazy to go through all this trouble of building a multi story car park and expect people to still have to walk in the weather elements.

Does anyone know if this proposal for the carpark and plaza will still allow you to use the elevated ramp for drop offs at departures as is now??

Strange, no comments from anyone regarding this? Wouldn't want to see either Malaysia, Singapore or Cathay Pacific go. Maybe it will be Air New Zealand that will go after Virgin Blue's announcement it's planning to create an alliance with the kiwis on the trans-Tasman market (see article below). If that's true it will be sad to see them go, but I would rather that than lose the asian air carriers. Any thoughts on what Phil Baker meant?

I thought he was talking about having been in talks with up to four carriers to start routes to ADL - two of which have decided against coming here.

You are right. I miss-read the whole statement Not sure what the Virgin Blue-Air New Zealand alliance will do to the Trans-Tasman service, but I hope I'm wrong about the kiwis leaving us.

Wouldn't mind knowing who the two airlines were that decided not to come here.

In a rather dissapointing development.. Emirates have indicated they won't be flying to ADL while there's a curfew in force.

"Speaking yesterday at The West Australian's Leadership Matters series, Emirates divisional vice-president commercial Richard Vaughan warned that the airline would not fly to Adelaide because of its curfew. "When Adelaide wakes, we might be interested," he said."

Brings to mind the shock we had when we came there in 1973 - pubs closed at 6.00PM and no service stations open after 6.00 till you got to Darlington. All others operated by 20c coins. Things HAVE changed a bit since then, but still disappointing to read Emirates comment.

Considered because its fact. We need the people who have bought a house next to the airport to realise they bought a house next to the airport.
I don't complain that cars drive next to my house at night because I know I bought a house on a main road.

Yeah but Sydney has 4 times the population of Adelaide and they still consider Adelaide a large town. You can't compare.

Sydney not only has the population, but australian aviation started there and it has over 100,000 employees.

I think adelaide actually does pretty well for itself considering its geographic location and population....i mean it does handle 7million ppl/year.

I'm not trying to compare, just pointing out the facts. Sydney has 4 times the population as you say but 5 times the number of flights by EK!!!

It is a fact that Adelaide is underserviced by International airlines, in fact a large number of people travel to Melbourne on Virgin Blue flights that connect directly to Emirates flights, according to a Melbourne airport souce enough pax to justify our own direct service.

The problem is that there is a stigma about Adelaide being a tough market to crack and even harder to sustain a new airservice and crew base here. Few new International airlines will fly to Adelaide until there is a change of perception, one that could have been changed by developments such as Olympic Dam etc, but that may now not come to fruition thanks to the Rudd Government's Mining Tax.... but thats a whole other story...

I don't want to derail the thread, but I cannot let that mining tax thing go past.

There is every reason to believe that the mining tax may increase the likelihood of airlines coming to Adelaide.

At the present, there is an argument out there that the winners from the tax are likely the shareholders, government, and workers. The losers are likely to be top management. Hence the hoo-hah.

Like I said, this is not really the place to discuss it, but do check out the various pro and con arguments out there - it is not as simple as the mining management would like you to believe.

Do we know why Emirates (and other airlines) cite the curfew for not flying to Adelaide? I don't imagine that flights landing between 11pm - 6am would be all that popular with passengers. But presumably it has something to do with cost (and/or scheduling in Dubai)...?

I'd heard it was a scheduling issue relating to the time the flights take. Dubai to Adelaide is too short, and extending the flight to NZ is made difficult by the curfew. But the five daily flights to Sydney undermine that argument somewhat.

As for unpopular flight times, most passengers find it difficult to sleep on the plane anyway and nearly everyone would be jetlagged. Under these circumstances even a 3am landing is unlikely to be a problem for passengers.
