[COM] Southern Expressway Duplication | $445m | 22km
[COM] Re: #PRO: Southern Expressway duplication | $445m | 22km
The nedian would require a concrete barrier and sufficient safety clearance either side to the actual traffic lanes.
I'm not saying that it can't be done but there is (at the very least) no room to consider safety or non-vehicler users of the corridor. Looking at Nearmap it appears that the only bridge structure that allowed for expansion is the bridge over Lander Road. This strikes me as very odd as it could have been easily duplicated.

I hope they replace the 'wood slat' retaining walls with something more substantial. Many slats are hanging off or missing - looks terrible.

Yesterday and today there have been quite a few orange vests and surveying equipment around the Beach Road, Southern Express Way overpass and interchange.
I also spotted a couple of guys further along the exprees way towards the city, after the Majors road overpass on the embankment with some equipment. It was a bit hard to see what exactly at 100Km/h.
One would assume preliminary mapping and desgin work?

Can any one tell me or know where to find the answer to what % of the traffic that travels along south road from say grand junction road actually uses the existing southern expressway?

It's a little difficult to tell which way traffic has come or gone but these maps help:camaro68 wrote:Can any one tell me or know where to find the answer to what % of the traffic that travels along south road from say grand junction road actually uses the existing southern expressway?

You cant really tell who comes from so far north and continues the journey though. You'd need to do a bluetooth track like they did for Grenfell street on a HUGE scale.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

Typically you would do a number plate survey. For something this simple - i.e. measuring through traffic between two points - you would only need two sites. Generally one camera is used per lane.monotonehell wrote:You cant really tell who comes from so far north and continues the journey though. This sort of data is collected all the time for traffic modelling work.

I hope they dont have wooden sound barriers anywhare along this - Bris is full of them - they weather and turn black, get vandalised and graffitied, some of the slats fall off. In all, while good for sound, they become nasty visual pollution. Bris has some concrete barriers as well. (all types up to about 6-7m high - making a troughlike appearance of the road in question with landmarks hard to see).

SOUTH Australians will be given the opportunity to have their say on the $445 million duplication of the Southern Expressway at community open days.
The first community open day will be held tomorrow (Saturday) from 10am to 3pm at the Hopgood Theatre in Ramsey Place at Noarlunga Centre. A second one will be held on Wednesday between 4pm and 8pm at the Marion Sports and Community Club in Sturt Rd at Marion.
Transport Department project director Lou George said the project team wanted to hear the community's views and ideas.
"The open days are a fantastic opportunity for the local community to provide input into the project at a very early stage in the planning process," he said.
A project team will be on hand to talk about the duplication and answer any questions.
Feedback forms will be available on the day or can be posted later.

I think that the duplication of this expressway should not go ahead, I feel it's a waste of taxpayers money, have the advisors to the politicians that make these commitments not told them of the theory of induced demand?
If this goes ahead it will encourage people to use it and it will clog up and then what build another 4 lanes???
We should be spending money on public transport and getting people out of cars and into busses, trains, trams etc, I don't want this state to look like the other states in Australia full of congested freeways.

You made the exact post in another thread for the South Rd Superway. With an opinion like that I believe you are lost and the website you need is www.adelaidenow.com.au Or are you here just to work us up a bit?

Work you up a bit, lost?? no not at all, the theory of induced demand is quite real and i feel just spending money on freeways is not always the answer.
The use of public transport is a far better way of dealing with traffic issues then just plonking freeways everywhere.
I'm a new member of this web page and I’ve spent some time reading through the different opinions put in by others and i just wanted to get my thoughts across.
Read the info on induced demand (refer link below) it’s real and I just don’t want this government to spend approx $1.3 Billion dollars to make little or no difference to the traffic situation at either ends of south road.

The State Government is already spending billions on upgrading the public transport network.
