That's Beacon House (old MLC building) and it's been heritage-listed since 1986. It was built in 1957 and is apparently considered one of the nation's finest examples of the International style. Here's a DEH
fact sheet.
The class of just the back side of that building leaves all of City Central so far much wanting...

Not at street level, though, where the back of the building is a big let down.

Thanks for the latest round of pic updates Xaragmata and others. Much appreciated.
The pics are starting to show how huge this site really is. It is no wonder so much office space will be available from a building of this height. Effectively it is two CCT1 towers next to each other but with fewer levels. Adelaide definately needs more height but a tower of this scale is still impressive.

I think you're talking about the same plot of land that this building is going to be located on. It's quite large. Unless you're talking about the empty lot with nothing happening next to the intersection of Franklin and Pitt Streets?

ADELAIDE - TOWARDS A GREATER CITY SKYLINE
Yep, I'm pretty sure it's still part of the site for City Central 8.

Monday - piling and excavation, mostly between the old substation and News building. Not much to see on the Franklin St section yet.

It's still a substation as far as I know. It's just an old one.

The intention is to relocate it (the plant), but from observation the structure will remain, with the new building around it (?)

[“It enables us to relocate an ETSA substation and we have some arrangements with Australia Post but we can’t comment on those at the moment, but
it unlocks a balance of City Central for us to enact the master plan which includes other office buildings, residential and, down the track, the Adelaide
GPO. So Tower 8 is a catalyst for us being able to reach our goals.] - Adelaide Review article
