2010 Lord Mayor Election

#1 Post by Wayno » Mon Jul 05, 2010 8:24 am

With the Adelaide Lord Mayoral election only 4-ish months away I thought i'd start this thread to track the "Who's Who" of candidates.

As we know, Harbo is on his way out having been at the helm since 2003. Did he do a good job? and what exactly does the job entail?

History of Adelaide Lord Mayors: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ma ... f_Adelaide

Candidates
Francis Wong: PROMINENT businessman Francis Wong wants to be Adelaide's next Lord Mayor and says the city must encourage investment and development to make the most of the economic benefits of the state's looming mining boom. More...

Stephen Yarwood: Stephen describes himself as an urban futurist, and was recently quoted as saying ""I'm about to finish my masters of business administration. I've dedicated my life to understanding the planning and management of cities. It's truly a passion of mine and I feel that I can make a contribution". More...

Ann Moran: Anne lives in North Adelaide and has served as a City Councillor since 1995. She graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma of Education, and taught senior English and Modern History. Since 1995, Anne has devoted herself full-time to council duties. More...

Alexander Downer: Seems he has just pulled out of the running, but will consider running in 2014. More...

Other potential candidates:
* Jane Lomax-Smith
* Ralph Clarke
* Michael Henningsen
* Arnie Rossi

This is shaping up to be an interesting and potentially acrimonious election!

Jump onto AdelaideNow and vote for your favorite candidate ==> http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/ralph-cla ... 5889065969

It seems Ralph Clarke will soon announce himself as a candidate, and here's the poll results to date:

I was a little disappointed about my odds in the Advertiser which are based on a person's opinion. I did blog about it: http://stephenyarwood.blogspot.com/2010 ... -odds.html

I feel confident I can win and look forward to proving the Advertiser wrong!

haha, everything written in The Advertiser is based on personal opinion, wouldn't worry about what's written in that paper

Maybe I'm getting cynical, but I suspect that the Advertiser may secretely wish for a NIMBY to be elected. This would help them create more Adelaide bashing articles, which are so popular on Adelaide Now.

This may explain the lack of positive coverage for you.
