maybe an inch and a bit, its simply for separation of the car lanes and tramline, to signify to drivers not to drive on the tracks. Nothing to get upset over contractor, I think its a good idea. Seen how people drive lately? Even King William Street in places the tracks in the concrete are deliberately a cm or 2 above the bitumen, to signify that it is tram only. Same logic to those yellow humps to divide the road between oncoming traffic and the bump of reflectors to keep you in your lane, when talking on your mobile when driving . As for the medium strip, I think best to ring 5AA or write a letter to editor over that one, caus I really dont know what the issue there is

From a cost perspective, the elevated tracks are a cheaper option but not as visually pleasing in my opinion.

I will call 5AA immediately Monday morning. The letter is already in the post.

From a design perspective I actually like raised tram lines if the track is not intended to be driven upon.

In Adelaide we have tram lanes that can be driven on (south of Victoria Square) and tram lines that cannot be driven on (north of Victoria square). Having tram only lanes raised makes it very clear to drivers unfamiliar with the Adelaide tram network where they can and cannot drive.

Motorists can't even understand a solid line when there's a big BUS LANE painted along side it (see Botanic Rd). More drastic measures are needed to drill the message in.

While not as drastic as a raised median for the tram, I would have thought leather legs issuing an infringement or two would have been sufficient to get the message across.

Council's and governments make how much a year on infringement notices? Some how I don't think "The message" is getting across.

Personally I have no issues with the tram line being raised, I think it's a good safety measure and I have no problem with it aesthetically. The Tram stops on the other hand....

I think need to do something with the tram stops, if just to stop passengers leaping out in front of traffic once they have gotten off the train.

I'm thinking a fence between the rail and road at every stop and potentially pedestrian walks at either end, it seems beyond the adelaide commuters intelligence that running out in front of cars is a quick way to die, I gather they will just blame the government if they only get injured

Instead of mindlessly dashing across the road, they will mindlessly dash across the road against a red signal. There is only so much cotton wool you can wrap around people.

Calling it an Adelaide problem is just weak.

Nobody knows. If you read the rest of this thread then there's been some speculation, but until the Govt makes a decision it's all academic.

Same opinion and reasoning re (slightly) raised tramlines and I like the landscaping.

The tram stops need urgent action now!
Help from some talented Art and Design students needed (possible authentic assignment/competition?) and a grant to fund implementation of the winning design.
The Fringe Festival has a poster design competition each year and the responses are very creative!
