Engineering A City
How Adelaide was designed and built
SPEAKER: Richard Venus BTech, BA, MIEAust
WHEN: 7 pm Monday 26 July 2010
WHERE: Ira Raymond Exhibition Room
Just inside the main doors of the Barr Smith Library, University of
Adelaide, North Terrace, Adelaide
Engineers had a hand in developing Adelaide’s infrastructure.
They also established industries to make the equipment that harvested grain
and opened up the mineral wealth of the State.
Richard’s presentation will be based on Engineering A City, a booklet
designed to help people discover how Adelaide was designed and built.
Many of the buildings are gone and the infrastructure that remains is hidden
from view but there are still traces left if you know where to look – this booklet
lets you into the secrets. Copies will be available on the night.
