Oh, indeed, but pre-war examples are the exceptions rather than the norm.

For those playing at home, Max Pritchard's 'Bridge House' (2008) is very much a modern interpretation of International - if not quite in the detail then certainly in spirit:

Incidentally, now that Niemeyer and Brazil have been brought up, I cannot let the opportunity pass to post pictures of the delightful Palácio do Planalto and Palácio da Alvorada in Brasilia:

Yes, your right. Here are a couple more renders. Designed by the same Architect who did the Hawke building....

This has received planning consent and will be the tallest building in Mawson Lakes if it goes ahead:

Seven storeys at 23m high.

I've noticed in the paper in the last couple of weeks there's another
4 storey building planned. I'll try to get a pic on here.

Mawson Lakes is going ahead nicely.

Do you know how tall this one will be? I have one on the corners of Metro and Central on the DB, but it doesn't look like that.

Sky on Metro is the one under construction on the corner of metro pde and central link. It is only 4 levels. That 7 level one i think will be built on the corner of Metro pde and Capital st.

fantastic to see the amount of med-high density housing in Mawson Lakes

Its staggering that there are more taller buildings in Mawson Lakes than in the SE quarter of the city around Hutt Street. We are still building 2 level townhouses in that part of the city. Quite silly really

I wouldnt call it high-density jk1237, it's just 'higher' density than the rest of our burbs. Mawson Lakes is missing a few things though; spacious and affordable family sized apartments (none of this let's stick the laundry, bathroom and kitchen in the one room and charge half a mil for a couple of bedrooms), it's also missing good street level activity during the day and there is no night life at all which is strange as there are nearly 10,000 residents and a university campus. But that activity may come later once it has fully developed.

I dont think there will ever be night life at Mawson Lakes.

But good to see so many apartments in the area. Mawson Lakes would have the most
apartments of any suburb in Adelaide now I would say ?

A lot of people work in the Northern suburbs eg. At Holden, DSTO, BAE, RAAF, Lyell Mcewin
Hospital, Technology Park. Mawson Lakes is a good place to live for them because they're close
to work, close to the city and not in !@#% hole like Elizabeth.

Define nightlife.

In summer it can be quite busy in the evenings at the waterfront with the various restaurants there having alfresco dining, and the Mawson Lakes Hotel is getting to be quite busy at night as well.

I see nightlife as being night clubs and pubs.

I remember one warm night in Mawson Lakes there were lots of people around, the restaurants were busy, and the air was abuzz.

Admittedly the last fact was due to its proximity to Parafield Airport, but at least there's the impression of night life there - so I'd expect it to be more likely to attract night life than anywhere else.
