Update from Woodhead International:
Construction underway on new headquarters for SA Police
Construction is underway on the South Australian Police Services new headquarters in the Adelaide CBD. The design includes a state of the art new building with a fully integrated fitout on Angas Street and provides a modern policing environment for over 1,000 staff.
The building consists of 10 storey’s of office accommodation with carparking located both on the ground level and in a secure basement. Woodhead aims to achieve a 5 star Green Star rating for the building and fitout and has produced a tailor made design to ensure integration of the Police’s functional and performance requirements, which will result in an increase in the level of performance over and above a standard PCA A Grade development.
The interior fit out provided in excess of 18,000m2 of new office accommodation to the South Australian Police. The interior elements of the design also look to achieve the provision of a South Australian Police Headquarters resonant with both the community and the police, plus represent and convey through the environment the Vision of the South Australian Police.
The new workplace design is set to emphasise Leadership and Support as the core functional activities within the headquarters and to maximise flexibility and efficiency whilst meeting the security and cultural requirements within Government standards

Is the glass really going to be that colour? Tacky much.... I hope it's just a unrealistic updated render.

I was almost going to post this afternoon "Now remember, like the other thread, this is just a render of the physical shape, like a technical sketch not a photorealistic render." But then I thought that people would be able to tell the difference by now.Ben wrote:Is the glass really going to be that colour? Tacky much.... I hope it's just a unrealistic updated render.

The reason I ask is it's the SA police colours so I wouldn't be so sure it's just the "shape" they are trying to get accross here.monotonehell wrote:I was almost going to post this afternoon "Now remember, like the other thread, this is just a render of the physical shape, like a technical sketch not a photorealistic render." The colours might be close to what is intended, but in that kind of render the picture is made of planes matte coloured flatly. So there's no photorealism with texture or any aspect of the material that might be used. It's an analogue to making a model out of pieces of coloured paper.Ben wrote:The reason I ask is it's the SA police colours so I wouldn't be so sure it's just the "shape" they are trying to get accross here.monotonehell wrote:I was almost going to post this afternoon "Now remember, like the other thread, this is just a render of the physical shape, like a technical sketch not a photorealistic render." Imagine the effect at night with office lights on though.

Thanks for the pics guys. Will be rather impressive when it's all done. Will certainly add to east side.

From this morning - these blank western walls are getting pretty common.

Having to explain why a blank wall is required when a development fronts onto a property boundary is getting pretty common too!

There are many of us who understand why the blank walls are there and simply don't like them - there are things that could be done about that. For example, the reason that we see so many blank walls is that our regulations allow building out to the full plot width for the entire height of the building; that could be changed to limit this to, say, 4-6 stories and then require setbacks above that. That was one of the aspects of Manhattan's famous 1916 Zoning code (spiffy history here). Alternatively, there could be a requirement that any blank walls that are exposed at the time of construction receive some amount of decoration.
