China has invented a concept called the straddling bus which elevates itself over the inside (fast) lanes, allowing cars to zoom underneath even when it's stopped at a bus stop. High vehicles eg trucks, and those vehicles that are turning off would travel in the outside (slow) lane.

I can't help but wonder if this concept would work well for Adelaide's north/south corridor where buses routinely block traffic. It seems a very cost effective retrofit to existing street designs, as long as the necessary three lanes are available.

Our roads are nowhere near congested enough to need something like this, it certainly is a different idea though!

I'm amazed they plan to actually build this - the situation seems much better suited to a monorail IMO.
