There will be a new hospital at the railyards

Adelaide Oval will be the new home of AFL football in SA

Deal with it.

If you an SJ want to create a thread where you both can re-post the same information over and over again, feel free to create one, but I feel that I speak for most people on here, who are sick to death of this argument which has been going on around in circles for years, and wish this thread to remain free of politics and instead be one where people can discuss the actual riverbank development.
Well said.

This forum is democratic, so having made my (very sensible and persuasive) point, I'll shut up...

The think to me is that it is now irrelevant whether or not a hospital or a stadium would be the best decision for that site.

Whatever anyone thinks of it, the time for the decision has passed, and it has been made and is progressing. Barring some major unforeseen circumstances it is pointless to put down future plans based on what may have once been. I come here to learn about what is going on, and to see interesting plans for the future, however those plans have to be at least somewhat based on what is realistically possible.

extended fly-through is up on AdelaideNow: http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/sout ... 5912209003
NEW designs for the rejuvenation of the River Torrens precinct have been revealed, with SACA and SANFL signing formal documents for the Adelaide Oval redevelopment.

Infrastructure Minister Patrick Conlon has announced today that the SANFL and SACA have signed letters of intent to push ahead with redeveloping Adelaide Oval.

Mr Conlon described today as an important step forward in the redevelopment.

“All parties have committed to the project to redevelop the Adelaide Oval supported through a nonnegotiable capped offer of $535 million from the State Government,” he said.

“It is now up to the SACA to put the matter before its members and the SANFL to its Board of Directors for formal approval to enter into a binding legal agreement.

“The SANFL and SACA anticipate being in a position to present a formal resolution to their respective constituents in December.

“It’s vitally important all stakeholders have the chance to provide input and we have agreed to give both sporting codes the time to formalise approval and execute this agreement.

“The Office of Major Projects and Infrastructure will work closely with the Stadium Management Authority to drive the process.”

Mr Conlon says complementing the stadium redevelopment is the $394 million investment to revitalise the Riverbank Precinct.

This included a redevelopment of the Adelaide Convention Centre, a $250 million investment by Sky City into its casino operations and plans by the Intercontinental Group to redevelop their facilities.

“Between now and December, the State Government will provide a further $5 million in addition to the $5 million provided in January, taken from its $535 million offer, to progress the planning phase from concept to detailed design and planning approval work.”

Stadium Management Authority CEO, Leigh Whicker said it was “a momentous day for our two sports as we confirm our intent to make Adelaide Oval the home of football and the home of cricket in South Australia.”

“It’s an exciting opportunity to create a world class stadium in the city for future generations of South Australians and the enormous amount of work we have put in to this point gives us every confidence that we can bring this vision to reality,” Mr Whicker said.

Stadium Management Authority Chairman, Ian McLachlan AO said the next stage of the process would involve members of all four sporting entities concerned with the project – the SACA, SANFL, Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide Football Club.

“Information will be emailed or posted to more than 80,000 members in early September and each of the organisations will be holding information sessions for their members later that month,” Mr McLachlan said.

“We urge all members to come along and hear the latest about this exciting project and learn what it means for them. This is particularly important for SACA members given we will be putting the formal resolution to members later in the year.”

All parties are working toward Test cricket being played at the venue in the summer of 2013/14 with the hope that AFL games will be played at Adelaide Oval in the 2014 season.

Mr Conlon said the renewed commitments from football and cricket and the new governance arrangements should ensure the whole redevelopment of the River Torrens precinct delivers on its long untapped potential.

Just had a look at the new video. It looks amazing. It is great that as part of the new Riverbank precinct they have also decided to improve the outdated Hajek/Festival Plaza into something atractive and useful.

Love how the Convention Centre's North Terrace frontage will now have retail tenanacies as oppossed to the view of the carpark there is currently.

The updated fly through is amazing!

The Casino addition looks spectacular and the use of the Festival area for events, the 'Riverside Promenade' for restaurants and linking of the precinct & Adelaide Oval by Train and Tram is just what the area needs!

I have my doubts this will get down as much as would love to see it

my big question is improving the water quality to the torrens, that has to also be looked at .

It is already being considered - although perhaps not as officially as i'd like (it's not as big a vote winner as a stadium or riverbank precinct).

There are *plans* to filter suburban storm water through wetlands at a few key locations along the Torrens. A corner of Pinky Flat is one proposed wetland location - and a good one too as it's directly opposite the Convention Centre! It would collect and filter storm water from the AO precinct.
