COM: Glenelg Tramline Upgrade
Adopting light rail systems in cities has become extremely popular all around the world. If governments spent large amounts of money to rip them up in the 50's and 60's and are now putting them back in they must be benefiting most cities. Just go to http://www.lightrailnow.org and click on LRT Systems Planned and it'll confirm how popular light rail is. To compare Adelaide just to Portland is unfair and this bloke seems to be the minority. cheers

An interesting read Mooshie. (Feb. 4 2007). I agree with your final thoughts - A TOTALLY DIFFERENT CITY - and...with another culture and set of circumstances. No matter what happens, there will always be critics - the only avoidance of which is do nothing, say nothing and be nothing. Then whatever the develpment is, it will always be a perfect proposition.

I have to admit I am very sceptical about the ability of this project to regenerate areas along the tramline. The area where the tramline currently exists, in the southern half of the city, is not exactly thriving because of it.
I am very much in favour of the tramline extension for several reasons including it contributing to increased public transport use, improving the atmosphere/uniqueness of the city. But I wish they wouldn't keep pushing this issue of it regenerating the West End which I think is just setting the project up for ridicule when it doesn't happen.

There's already several new high-rises proposed for the area around King William and South Tce.Tyler_Durden wrote:I have to admit I am very sceptical about the ability of this project to regenerate areas along the tramline. The Sunday Mail used the numbers received by the no trams website to justify their call for the minister to scrap the tram extension. This is further evidence of the toilet journalism of the Advertiser. If they think the government will cancel the tram line extension because of 700 people, there is something wrong with them. Adelaide is a city of 1.15 million people. 700 people only represent like 0.1%!Tom wrote:notrams has only recived 8 emails from people pro tram! and around 700 who arnt in support!
