Would LOVE to support clr but am in QLD - where the defectors go it seems. Adelaide is still home to me though.

Hi David, good luck with your Area Councillor appointment. We very much appreciate your frank and honest sharing of opinions with the S-A community! The world is a better place when regular communication occurs.

I do agree that the Agricultural Design (re. example you provide) is very ordinary.

Very much appreciate the ACC supporting the Fringe. Your statement sums up its success:

Adelaide Fringe 2010 amassed 1,085,551 attendances across all events resulting in a total associated expenditure of $35.1 million. It brought 8,900 new visitors to South Australia with expenditure estimated at $4.7m to the State and add to this the estimated $5.7m of expenditure retained in the State from people who stayed in South Australia for the event, The Fringe generated $10.4m visitor expenditure in the State and the creation of 116 FTE jobs. A few other relevant facts 30,000 bed-nights were created 260,000 South Australians attended 3.8 events each 1 in 5 Adelaide residents attended an Adelaide Fringe event 375,000 Fringe guides were distributed 80.000 revellers attended the opening night party Adelaide City Council is a major sponsor of the Fringe with a contribution of $300,000

Given the Fringe is such a success, do you foresee the ACC continuing to provide $$$ support? Just comparing to the Clipsal race which is also a financial success and the recent ACC decision to withdraw funding. Keen for your thoughts as the ACC obviously has limited funds and many worthy goals.

I also support this decision:

The Authority supported a proposal by the Botanic Gardens to build a wetlands and ASR in Park 11 adjacent to Hackney Road designed to capture and clean the water flowing down First Creek en route to the Torrens

Lastly, any recent news you can share on the IDC? nothing much seems to have been made public by Tim Horton to date. Maybe that will change once the Fed election result is finalised.

In response to Wayno's question, this is my reply (sorry to have been a bit slow replying - we have had a pretty hectic time lately!)

Fringe funding is secure; we are tending to favour events that have limited access to sponsors and media with deep pockets. We are tending to favour new and creative events, ones with broad appeal and those wich are multicultural in flavour and community-oriented. Incidentally we are still funding the Clipsal-sponsored Solar Car Challenge (which ticks more of the right boxes for the Council Sustainability Action Plan).

The IDC is being set up under Tim Horton's direction, setting up accommodation, recruiting staff and preparing all kinds of interesting plans and strategies. I am privvy to some information which I cannot share just at this time but I can assure you that a lot of essential preparatory work is being done. I think the official start date for the IDC is 11 October.

just reading Councillor Plumridge's notes, considering we have been in an economic slowdown, to have 400 new residential dwellings, and 300 new hotel rooms become available in the city in the 6 months from Dec 2009 to June 2010, is pretty bloody good IMO . Is it usually that high for residential dwellings. Hope it continues

Moran withdraws from Lord Mayoral race

Ms Moran today told AdelaideNow her strained relationship with the State Government made her nomination unwise.

Ms Moran said she supported prominent businessman Francis Wong to take over from incumbent Michael Harbison when his term ends in November.

Ms Moran said she would still nominate to remain a councillor.

Nominations close on September 21.

Councillors Ralph Clarke and Stephen Yarwood has declared their intention to nominate.

Hope has prevailed.

NO WAY! Is it April 1? There must be ulterior motives, she must have got whim of some fact she has no chance of winning, isn't this her dream?

According to a recent statement from Moran, it's not just her dream - it's HER TURN!

Like the mayoral appointment system works on some sort of roster

If she did run, and win, it could have perhaps been the end of her career.
She would either do a 180 on some of her views, or maintain them as mayor and pay the price.
So this might be a double edged sword scenario, where we don't get her as mayor where she can potentially do more damage, but then she is still a councilor and capable of continuing on her destructive path.
