The old CAC store was in an external store of the main building of the Triangle / Kelly's Farm / whatever name it was back in the '90s. So very close to where Scoot's suggesting that they are moving to.The Scooter Guy wrote:Actually, Barbecues Galore was next to Cash Converters, before it moved to Gepps X HQ.pushbutton wrote:Isn't that back where they used to be then before they moved into TTP? Modbury Triangle needs to be leveled then redeveloped. The whole area is a mess. The space could be much better used.pushbutton wrote:Isn't that back where they used to be then before they moved into TTP? (They were known as "C.A.C. The same could be said for most of Modbury. It's all car parks and unused lawns.duke wrote:Modbury Triangle needs to be leveled then redeveloped. The whole area is a mess. The space could be much better used.

To clarify my earlier comments; I spoke with a couple of the traders in TTPlus on Saturday and some of the retailers in the Northern end of the mall have signed new leases which will see them moving into vacant tenancies in the middle and South Eastern end of the TTPlus centre.
These moves are to be completed by early December and this will allow 'Stage 1' of the TTPlus expansion to take place. This will involve removing some shops (Gauchi, the craft shop next door and Adelaide Exchange Jewellers) and adding a 'dog leg' onto the mall to better utilise the large vacant space behind these retailers. This is where the Plaza will eventually connect up to Tea Tree Plus.

Also, Amart Allsports (formerly known as Rowe & Jarmen) and Radio Rentals will eventually have 'Business As Usual' banners.

Comparison shots of what Tea Tree Plaza looks like from past to present:
The top photo is what Tea Tree Plaza originally looked like.
2 huge extensions were built later on. The 1st extension (Late 1980sish) included Big W, Woolworths & Hoyts. The 2nd Extension (1998) included Coles & Bi-Lo (now HS).

To add to and partially correct the last post, Tea Tree Plaza had Woolworths when I first saw it in 1989 in the same location it is now.
The store that is now Harris Scarfe was previously Bi-Lo, before that it was Bi-Lo Mega Fresh, before that it was World 4 Kids (a toy store similar to Toys R Us and owned by Kmart), and before that, when I first saw it in 1989, it was Arrow Superfoods (a supermarket). It has been there since at least 1989, but it was extended when it was converted from World 4 Kids into Bi-Lo Mega Fresh.
Hoyts cinemas were built about 1991 or 1992, originally with just 6 cinemas, and had quite an impressive curved glass facade looking into the carpark. The cinemas were later extended into the current format with 9 cinemas total, and the nice glass facade was replaced with the ugly boring faceless concrete wall that is there today. I think that was about 1998. I think it was about the same time as this when the food court was rebuilt. Originally the food court had raised and lowered sections with slopes to go between the different levels. There were also a couple of fountains and lots of plants in wooden planter boxes. By flattening the whole area they squeezed in significantly more tables.
The last major extension to the mall was roughly 2001 I think (could be way out though) and included Coles, Kmart and all the specialty shops around them.

I do remember when Target had a Garden Centre. You can even tell what year the major stores opened by looking at the date of manufacture on the fire hose reels! For example, the fire hose reel next to the vending machines at K-Mart was made in 1997 and that means that K-Mart as well as the extension it was located in was built a year later.pushbutton wrote:To add to and partially correct the last post, Tea Tree Plaza had Woolworths when I first saw it in 1989 in the same location it is now.

Never thought of looking at fire hoses but good point! I was wrong about the last extension being 2001 then, it was 1998 obviously.

I've always thought there must have been something seriously wrong with the Tea Tree Gully council planning department. What sort of planning officer would grant permission to build a mall right next to a mall (which already had a mall across the road from it)?

That’s the TTG Council for you. Speaking of the Council, you can see their chambers in the original photo on the site that is now home to Tea Tree Plus. Also McDonalds is missing from the top right of the same picture.pushbutton wrote:I've always thought there must have been something seriously wrong with the Tea Tree Gully council planning department. Also, in reference to the current site of Harris Scarfe, between the time when it was an Arrow Superfoods and World 4 Kids, the shop was a Foodland Supermarket. I know this as i worked there for 18 months when i was at school....Also, when the shop was Arrow, i remember they had their own Arrow branded hot food take-a-way place at the front right of their tenancy. They made the best hot chips

Yes I had forgotten it had also been Foodland for a while. Thanks for adding that. Well that shop certainly has seen some changes over the last 20 years! It's quite strange that it was a supermarket, then not a supermarket, then a supermarket again and now not a supermarket once again!
I also remember the Arrow snack bar.
