Re: Malcolm Douglass dead at 69
The 69-year-old died from massive chest injuries after a freak car accident at his Broome wildlife park yesterday morning.
It is understood Mr Douglas became trapped between his Landcruiser and a tree after he started the engine from outside the vehicle and it lurched forward.
"Malcolm was known to many as a bushman, film maker and conservationist. To us he was a loving father, husband, son, and brother," his family said today in a statement.
"(He) was too young to die. He was still so full of life and dreams.
"Malcolm was driven by his love of the Australian bush and its wildlife."
Mr Douglas was known as the original crocodile hunter, long before the late Queenslander Steve Irwin, who also died in tragic circumstances, rose to popular fame.
Mr Irwin died after being fatally pierced in the chest by a stingray barb while filming in Australia's Great Barrier Reef in 2006.
