Pasadena has the Rose Bowl, Adelaide will have the Grape Bowl. Well, it sounds better than Ozisnowman's Toilet Bowl!ricecrackers wrote:thats it, it'll be grape varietiesPants wrote:Was really curious about what color(s) the seats would be. Light green and burgundy sounds interesting. No doubt there'll be a few wanky things they can say they drew inspiration from - parklands, the hill, wine, grapes, vines, the roofs of the old stands etc

All the brackets for the seating has been installed in the upper and lower tiers of the southern end. Green seats starting to be put in place. Looks kinda like the same shade of Memorial drive stands. Not many installed when I was there.

Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

Photos taken afternoon of Friday 24th September 2010
View of the catwalk above the bubble roof on the new stand..this continues over the entire structure I believe.
First of the seats have been installed…also concreting has begun on the lower bowl
Close-up of the installed seating
View along the Western Stand…middle bubble now covered.
View of the brick work on the side. Also an indication of the change in ground shape from the old D to an Oval
the Memorial Drive Tennis Stadium, which has green seating..the same colour as I believe is being installed in the WS
Overall, I thought the progress was very noticeable, its been 3 weeks since I last visited the ground, Perhaps the builders will have the West Stand finished by the November deadline??)NB: proposed name from the Advertiser: the Giffen Pavilion(s)

Question: Do SACA members pay game day admission fees in addition to their membership costs? or is that included?
I'm just curious what you get for your $659 payment ($299 Entrance Fee + $300 member card + $60 building levy)

Great photos. Thanks!
The seats could really make or break this thing and it doesn't look good so far. A lighter green, as expected from the Advertiser article, would've been much more subtle to let the stands do the talking. At least they should mix it up within sections and have a few random lighter colours thrown in for interest. AAMI Park in Melbourne is a great eg of a well designed stadium being let down by seating colour choice. It's early days for this stand of course, but I hope the finished product doesn't have the same effect.

Regardless of weather your in favour of a redeveloped Adelaide Oval or a brand new City stadium which I is my personal preference and I haven't even tried to hide the fact. The economic benefits of playing the countries largest spectator sport in the CBD far out weigh playing out in the suburbs at the old Football Park.
Just read this article to see how much Melbourne's laughing at the propect of staging the AFL Grand Final Replay. (Note - This is not a Melbourne Vs Adelaide whinge.)
What's important to understand here is that it's not just the Game and Media that stands to gain, its the flow on effects of the extra people in the CBD that will be spending their money in the surrounding pubs, clubs, retail outlets and hotels. This is what I have been arguing about for ages on this site. I believe that no matter what your stance is on the Oval issue, the benefits of a city relocation can not be under estimated. Adelaide as a whole is missing out by playing at West Lakes.
