The seats could really make or break this thing and it doesn't look good so far. A lighter green, as expected from the Advertiser article, would've been much more subtle to let the stands do the talking. At least they should mix it up within sections and have a few random lighter colours thrown in for interest. AAMI Park in Melbourne is a great eg of a well designed stadium being let down by seating colour choice. It's early days for this stand of course, but I hope the finished product doesn't have the same effect.

IMO it doesn't really matter, because when most people see it, it will be full of people.

the adelaide oval project sounds great, but when are they going to give it the all clear, and when will they start building it?

Sorry to drag up the WC thing again, but I was looking at the Australiabid.com.au site for the WC, and under the stadiums list the Adelaide Oval pitch looks rather rectangular.



I'm baffled as to how it's going to be rectangular, when from current photos we have seen, it's actually become more of an oval shape.

I wonder whether AO's lighting would be up to FIFA WC future HD/3D broadcast standards? They're very strict these days I believe.

Personally I think that the AO lights are already pretty ordinary regarding shadowing etc but maybe it's just my eyes.

I don't believe so, I think the AOSMA just believe they can offer up an AFL oval and get it past FIFA. Having watched Australia vs Ghana at Rustenburg in RSA, I'm pretty sure the distance from the pitch caused by the running track at Royal Bafokeng would be at or about the same distance as the fully redeveloped AO. Football specific legacy will not come in the way of the 'big' stadiums, I think we are many years away from(if ever) filling big stadiums for national league club games, the legacy items will IMO be the improved facilities that WC Nations use for training purposes and the massive boost to the profile of the sport in the 12 years leading up to the event should we win the rights to host it. Maybe when the AO-SMA talk about FIFA complience and weaseling somecon out of the Feds for it, they mean to upgrade the lighting situation rather than alter the shape of the seating bowl. Certainly no indications have been even hinted at that the Foody & cricket heads running the SMA have even thought about using the AO for anything other than foody & cricket. world football/Rugby/RL is an afterthought at best and and an anoyance at worst for the SMA.

The Northern and Southern most ends of the stand will be entirely green and the middle section will be entirely burgundy.

Apparently the seats in the most northeryly and southerly of the Western stand bays are to be the light green colour with the centre bay in burgundy..I responded to this with:

Unfortunately due to work I was unable to attend last night's SMA information meeting. I have scoured the new redevelopment website but cannot find any information on how you intend to ensure this new stadium (which as a SACA member I support) will be compliant with FIFA regulations should Australia win the right to host the World Cup. Even failing in that bid, a FIFA compliant stadium would allow the FFA to finally schedule a Senior Socceroos game in Adelaide. If the facility is good enough for FIFA, I would imagine it would be more than good enough for the ARU to schedule a Wallabies Test in Adelaide. Or as the board is only made up of people from the Australian Football and Cricket communities, have you forgotten all about this aspect? Surely to be World Class venue, the new Adelaide Oval must be capable of hosting more than 2 sports with spectators having an enjoyable experience. I have attended Socceroos games in Melbourne at the MCG and I have to say the sightlines and distance from the field of play made it a terrible experience. I would appreciate your thoughts on this matter,
