nah man it's a freakin' conspiracy!!! probably involving the freemasons or US Govt...to be honest I think the issue of many buildings in the cbd being 18lvl is just massive coincidence to which we're are thinking WAAAYYY too much about

Just throwing it out there: Is ~20 levels of offices the height above which fast lift systems gain another layer of complexity?
[COM] Re: U/C: City Central 8 - Aust Tax Office | 72m 18lvls
I have to say that I think this height issue is a nothing more than a reflection of demand and so it's no surprise really to see that the proposals are being restricted to around the 18 level mark. I was preparing for an economics presentation I had to give in Melbourne on Monday and I was trolling through the ABS website and found this:
http://www.ausstats.abs.gov.au/ausstats ... issue).pdf
States by GDP as at end of 2008/2009 financial year ($AUD Million), so the figures are a bit dated but it makes the point:
1. NSW: $402,334
2. Vic: $291,637
3. Qld: $243,901
4. WA: 169,950
5. SA: $78,986
6. ACT: $25,969
7. Tas: $23,176
8. NT: $17,168
So if we want larger/higher buildings we have to first generate the demand, which will in turn provide the yield to justify larger investment in property.
Interesting to see ACT economy larger than both Tassie and NT though.

I imagine that's the effect of massive government infrastructure projects, particularly technology infrastructure.Benski81 wrote:Interesting to see ACT economy larger than both Tassie and NT though.

Damn, isn't that just a shocking stat for SA. (insert sad face)
Here's a story which all you folks need to remember. It's from a book about the developement of Australia, early references to aboriginal australia, to modern australia, state by state developement by developement. NOW, the most telling of this book was the part dealing with early South Australian history. The failures of our mining industry and the lack of economic growth early on....and stated along the lines of this 'the course of australian history would be extremely different today if the South Australian border were aligned a mere 40km east. It would have captured Broken Hill, a powerhouse for NSW growth and revenue' He goes on to say that SA would have boomed had Broken Hill been within our borders. (he points out employment, revenue from the mines etc investment rah rah rah)
Its a darn shame though. But heres hopeing Olympic Dam can be our Broken Hill/Pillbara...... we need it!

The excavations seem to be taking ages for this building!
Will the electrical transformer building be incorporated inside the new structure, or is it being removed?

I missed your question before - I'm fairly confident the substation will be in the basement, judging by the amount of ducting visibleProfessor wrote:The excavations seem to be taking ages for this building!

Talking to one of the site supervisors today, they are expecting to install the cranes in the new year.

This building is huge. No wonder it will be our new biggest building. Such a shame it's not height wise though.

Some action over the weekend to move the front fencing further out, onto the road, to allow the site access.
Starting to look like a serious building site now.
