What did Omi just say??Nort wrote:Yeah, there will be something tall there some day, won't be that building though.Omicron wrote:Never say never. With height guides as they are (and recent evidence from the DAC that they'll look past them if the building is right), a 103m site with only ~20m in use is absolutely an investment - there's almost no other site like it in the CBD. I have no doubt that in good time, the market will be suitably favourable to justify such a large project.
I'm sure I've said that in this thread before.

Look on the bright side - the scrapping of plans for that building has had two excellent effects:Nort wrote:Yeah, there will be something tall there some day, won't be that building though.Omicron wrote:Never say never. Firstly it won't deter construction of a subway.
Secondly, it means eventually there could be the opportunity to build something more like Cruise's version!

That's certainly interesting. Doesn't necessarily mean it's the same proposal that we've previously been gushing over though (although one can certainly hope).
[CAN] Re: PRO: 51 Pirie Street | 22 levels | ~115m | Office
hope it still looks like this:
be pretty sweet if it got another 10 floors and a nice spire to make it the tallest, but i'm dreaming..Howie wrote:Code: Select all

Here's hoping it's one and the same proposal (minus 2 levels). It'd be one of very few international class buildings built here in recent times.

Shhh! No one tell Aidan.. he'll be complaining that this will ruin his subway that he's digging
I'd welcome a return of the original plan, I liked that it was incorporating the "heritage" frontage that exists there. (But is just a façade at the moment)

Fingers crossed for the retention of the existing design, although 115m is highly optimistic for 22 levels of offices. I do wonder why the developers are pressing for approval now when increasing height limits is looking more and more likely to be discussed and approved post-election.

If the design stays the same.
Let's hope for 100m+ for the height!

even if the design does change, it's probably going to be AMAAZIING!!!! anyway. Judging from the original render, this company looks like it can design better then Perth or Brisbane's developers.

Why do we have to compare ourselves to Perth or Brisbane? Talk about an inferiority complex. Who gives a shit what they do, let's get something unique and incredible, without having to draw on the "little brother" comments all the time.iTouch(myself) wrote:even if the design does change, it's probably going to be AMAAZIING!!!! anyway. Wondering why would they chop two floors off? Could it already have a tenant in the pipeline with a clear requirement that gives them the pre-commitment % needed for finance? Any estimate at the amount of space it would have?
