So much for the never changing skyline of Adelaide. Once this, Pirie St, that skinny King William st thing and all of city central is complete Adelaide will have a very, very different skyline.

Here's hoping they all get built.

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank today announced its search for a new corporate head office in Adelaide has progressed with a preferred site now identified.

Discussions with a developer will now commence and continue over the coming months in an effort to negotiate a suitable outcome for the bank and its staff.

The location under consideration is the existing Harris Scarfe site on Grenfell Street, with preliminary building concepts boasting an environmentally-friendly design.

The bank will not own the final building development, instead opting to enter into an agreement to occupy the proposed building in the heart of Adelaide’s commercial and retail precinct.

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Chairman, Robert Johanson, said beginning discussions with the developer of this site, Pacific Group and EPC Partners, was based on delivering the right solution for employees, customers, shareholders and the city of Adelaide.

“The proposed new site will have prominence across Adelaide’s cityscape, and its proposed innovative design would demonstrate the bank’s strong commitment to these groups,” Mr Johanson said.

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank’s Executive, Corporate Resources, Stella Thredgold, said the proposed development will reaffirm the bank’s corporate profile in the city as well as providing Adelaide with an innovative 5 star greenstar architectural design.

“Progressing to this next stage means we are now able to begin preliminary discussions and work together to incorporate detail in the design of the proposed new building to ensure the right solution can be delivered,” Ms Thredgold said.

“The planned site will accommodate about 1000 employees from three locations in Adelaide, providing our staff with a well-designed office environment which encourages greater productivity for our organisation and enhances a one team environment for our Adelaide employees.”

The bank owns its current Adelaide head office in Pirie St and has called this base home since 1988.

Following execution of the final documentation with the preferred site, the bank will then consider all viable options for its current offices in Pirie Street

Good news about Bendigo Adelaide looking at this development. It will probably remain our most northerly 100metre plus building in CBD for a very long while. The tennants will have some of the best views looking towards the Torrens. Also food and shopping right under their noses. What could you want more. Smart move I think.

The carpark stairwells are especially revolting - smelly (toilet fragrance) and unsightly (discarded chewing gum stains and very dirty).

Obviously being the majority tenant they will have absolute naming rights to the tower, but I am puzzled as to why the number of floors have to be reduced.

In a market that's apparently as limited for supply as the Adelaide CBD? Boo, hiss.

Mind you, that does mean the space in our pretty Pirie St proposal is essentially competing with itself for the next major tenant, and that's the one I want to see most of all.

I hope they keep it at 102m tho, the last 100m+ building to be built in Adelaide was 22 years ago, Westpac House. the tallest recently built was the ANZ building, and it's only 99m.

And I think that's to the top of that spindly white thing on the south-east corner, above the roof.

A 2 floor revolving restaurant at the top would help to retain the original height. How popular would that be and I'm sure it would be a hit with tourists.
