I'd, er, be revisiting those numbers.
My car is 7.8m long, and I would want a carpark approx 3m wide so as to be able to get in and out of the car. That makes 23.4 square metres. Add a little for manouverability to get into and out of the space, and I can easily arrive at 30 square metres per car.
cheers,

Your car is 7.8m long??? Does your "car" have Adelaide Metro written down the side??
Walking on over....

 Now you've made me realise that my memory's playing tricks on me. 7.8m was the max length to get on the Cooper Creek Ferry, and I was too long for that, but that's because I was towing a camper trailer! I drive a Navarra dual-cab, and it's a little over 5m long on it's own, so it would require about 16 square metres, plus room for manouvering, probably still close to 30 square metres, although I grant that the manouvering space would be shared by others using adjoining spaces and the spaces opposite. :)
cheers,
Rhino

An average parking space (in the city) is about 4.7m long and 2.7 wide. More like 12.5sqm and there are generally more than 2 people per car. I dont think Ive ever gone in with less than 3.

But you'd have to account for the lanes in between each row of parks, unless you plan to lower and lift cars into and out of their parks via crane ;)

AdelaideNow reports: NO FEDERAL CASH FOR ADELAIDE OVAL!!!
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/ipad/no-f ... 5997699833

...just disregard this bit:
"The State Government said that it has at no stage been reliant upon obtaining federal funding in order to proceed with the Adelaide Oval redevelopment," (Conlon) said.

A standard Australian interior non disabled access carpark is about 5.2m x 2.4m, and 800sqm seems too small to me too - it's only 80m x 10m.

In all this argung, peopler seem to have overlooked a couple of economic aspects. I don't know how significant these factors are, but an analysis done by a prospective financier of the carpark or the oval would pick them up. There may well be other factors too.

- The operator or user of Adelaide Oval may want to keep attendees at the oval for as long as possible to maximise exposure to the oval food, drink and other franchises. On the other hand, traders in the CBD may be anti any proposal for enlarging the oval unless they have an expectation that patrons will come their way.

- the real value of a carpark at Adelaide Ova is likely to be its weekday, non-oval operation. What a gem of a business, operating a carpark halfway across the Park Lands. Forget city car parks (including ACC's U-Park). Because the land comes to the government at no cost, the carpark could depending on arrangements undercut its city rivals. Getting trams and buses to the oval is easy.

The second point, about the carpark, is hard to consider without knowing what underlying financial arrangements there are. What would be the attitude of U-Park operator Adelaide City Council to a private competitor or AFL/SACA operating a better located, maybe cheaper mega-park on the city's doorstep? It all depends on who will own the carpark and who will operate it? Would ACC love to operate an Adelaide Oval carpark but can't say dso for any of several reasons.

If no structure is built, and parking is allowed on the grass (outside 'SACA's lease'), what is ACC likely to do, or demand?

While my view is that this project (ie the further extension of the oval facilities) is hard to make stack up is because it was never a real project to start with, but merely an electoral ploy, people talking about what might or might not happen at the oval should be aware of a few complexities beyond questions like 'What do we do with West Lakes?', which are hard enough questions anyway.

yes, looks like above project may have contributed to Foley's demise

I've just caught up with today's old news. Conlon says they are looking for a private investor for the car park.

That makes it very interesting, especially for the ACC.

Think of the figures: 3,000 parks at what, average $100 per week gross? That's $1,500,000 per year gross from an investment of $50 million... somewhere around 3.3%. Not enough. What about a PPP? Then the cost to the public will be off the front page of the budget. Better break it to the electorate gently...

My question is will the redevelopment be finished for the ashes series in 2013/2014 ?

It would be great to open the new venue with an ashes test match.

I can see the 2013/2014 ashes series being a bit of an issue here.

They wouldn't hold an ashes test match while half the ground is
unavailable due to the re - development.

Parking at AO currently costs $7.50. That's overly cheap compared to PT costs. Should be $12-15 which is close to what Wilson Parking charges for casual weekend rates.

and yes, i agree with you GHS. Can't be mid-development for the ashes. So that probably means no development action til autumn 2014 at the earliest.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

no development action until 2014 ?

What ?

It all has to be finished by 2014 for AFL. There's a fair bit of time between now and the
summer of 2013/2014. So I don't see any reason why they can't have it all done for the ashes.

For the international matches its $15. I do agree that pricing would have to be changed to encourage P/T though.
