So is that the same location that it used to be in ?

I drove down Hindley Street at 330 am last sunday morning and was really surprised
by how many people were there partying, so I can see why HJ's would open
up there. Also there's two big student buildings very close to Hindley street now
that Urban nest is open.

scafolding is up and appears to be construction of some sort?

Small bars 'can spark city revival'

ENCOURAGING “hole-in-the-wall” bars and lounges to open in old city buildings through the introduction of a new licence would rejuvenate the city, a traders group and the Property Council says.

Small bar licences, such as those operating in Perth and Sydney, encourage intimate watering holes to set up in small, under-utilised spaces by reducing red tape.

In Perth, small bar licences are credited with rejuvenating parts of the city with 11 new premises opening since the licence were introduced in 2007.

Property Council SA executive director Nathan Paine said the licences could bring more people into the city and increase safety.

“Effectively, if we get 20 funky bars moving into the area it makes everyone better off,” Mr Paine told the City Messenger.

“If there are more people on the streets we do know it does tend to reduce the crime that occurs.

“We’ve already spoken to the State Government and Adelaide City Council and made them very aware that we are very keen to see this model in Adelaide.”

Mr Paine said Cork Wine Bar on Gouger St had bought a new clientele to the strip and was a good example of the type of premises which could operate under the licence.

Adelaide West End Association president Andrew Wallace also supported calls for the licence to be introduced. He said it would bring a more diverse crowd to the west end and provide for more passive drinking spots.

But Australian Hotels Association spokesman Ian Horne said that the state’s special circumstances licence already catered for smaller premises.

“Gouger St between Victoria Square and Morphett St only has one pub but there is a multitude of small bars,” Mr Horne said.

“Some would say the small licences have taken off in Perth and in Sydney but there (in Sydney) the Lord Mayor is trying to shut them down.”

Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood said the way the council enforced state and federal liquor licensing laws and building codes meant it was sometimes hard for small venues to gain approval to open.

But he said he was keen to look at ways the council could cut red tape to encourage the use of older buildings in the city.

Commissioner for Liquor and Gambling Paul White said the special circumstances licence class sufficiently covered the type of premises that operated as small bars.

The licence allowed the licensee to sell alcohol for consumption on or off the premises in accordance with specific terms and conditions, Mr White said.

the small license thingo is a great idea and already happens in most of Europe

I would love to see them as part of the RIverbank re-development as well and along the side alleys which are well patronised.

Sections of King William Street are likely to be closed this Sunday morning due to major road works. I believe this will include replacing old street lights between Currie/Grenfell St and North Terrace.

The upgraded section between Currie/Grenfell St and Victoria Square, looks much better now.
