More updates. South Rd / Regency Rd intersection closed from 21st to 23rd January. I think this to put the 66kV powerlines underground. I believe they did the same at GJ Rd interection but not quite sure.

The Galipoli Drive (Not sure of its proper name) is almost finished with the traffic lights about to be installed on the Regency Rd end

Yeh it's a bit confusing.
The northern part near Grand Junction is called Gallipoli Grove, then it goes to Gallipoli Grove & Naweena Road "Link", then Gallipoli Drive on the southern end. Why not just give it one name?

The southern end is only 300 odd meters from the South/Regency intersection, so hopefully there isn't too many traffic issues. I drive through the area daily. :?

There's a public notice in Weekly Times Messenger to rename Gallipoli Grove (aka Farm Road) to Naweena Rd, & retaining Gallipoli Drive for the new road.

Completely randomly I just found out my cousin from melbourne is an engineer on this project. Having dinner with him tonight so I'll have to pick his brain about it. Weird.

I should say, anything anyone wants to know?

That's excellent benski. Perhaps ask him if he's heard anything about the section after regency road.. especially between torrens and port.. any talk about an extension in the near future?

[CivEngNerdTalk]"The overpass is being constructed using concrete of 50 Mpa grade and the steel is of the size 20 rebar type. The structure will be double cantilevered." [/CivEngNerdTalk]

I don't know if engineers would know about any future extensions, it's not really their job. Probably worth a try though.

As Hanson Road North will become a major detour route onto/off of the PREXY, work has commenced on the installation of traffic lights at the HRN & Chamberlain St Intersection. Work has also commenced at the Hanson Road / Grand Junction Rd Intersection where a slip lane will be installed out the front of the Liberty service station and a dedicated turning lane will be added along side the Bluescope Steel premises. The latter will require the acquisition of some land.

Ok so I've finally got 5 minutes to say that I spoke with my cousin and he said that as far as he understood this was the first stage of several with more to come later. I asked him if he could ask around and try to confirm this and he said he will and he'll get back to me asap.

Then the next morning I had an appointment with a client who works for the DTEI and was responsible for heading up the cost/benefit analysis on this project so I asked him the same question and he said the same thing. I asked him about the section between torrens and port rd and he said that the superway would likely be extended further up because of the benefit to cost ratio. I asked him if it would be a continuous above ground stretch or a series of underpasses/overpasses and he a continuous stretch is looking more likely.

We'll see, governments can change but as this is a national hwy it'll continue to attract federal funding so shouldn't be dependent on the state government.

Sounds like a logical thing to do. Thanks for that Benski.

I notice the undergrounding of powerlines is going well on that stretch of south road, hopefully they'll be able to start driving piles into the ground soon.

An e-mail update from Justine Voigt From Urban Superway
South Road Superway Roadworks

Regency Park Golf Course to Cormack Road

Construction notification April 2011
Urban Superway (consisting of John Holland, Macmahon and Leed) is working with the Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure to design and construct the $812.9m South Road Superway, which features a 2.8km elevated structure over the existing South Road between Taminga Street and the Port River Expressway. The Superway is the largest and most complex transport infrastructure investment ever made in South Australia, and is the second step in fulfilling the State Government’s strategic vision of a dedicated north-south corridor.

What to expect
Major roadworks are about to begin on South Road between the Regency Park Golf Course and Grand Junction Road. Work has already begun near the intersection of Days Road and South Road to create a stormwater detention basin. This involves the excavation of some land and there will be day time construction activity on the site while a new wetland, boardwalk, viewing platform and landscaped park area is created. This major improvement to the area is due to be open to the public in October 2011. Service relocation work is also continuing between Grand Junction Road and Cormack Road.

Traffic conditions along South Road, between the Regency Park Golf Course and Grand Junction Road will start to change from Saturday 26 March 2011. The changes include:
• Concrete barriers – along the western side of South Road from Taminga Street to Grand Junction Road.
• Road widening – on both east and west edges of South Road.
• Traffic lane reduction – 2 lanes in each direction during peak periods (6.30am - 9:30am and 3:30pm – 6.30pm Monday to Friday). At times reduced to 1 lane in each direction outside peak periods in some locations.
• 4.5 metre wide trench – along western side of South Road for new drainage.

Intersection restrictions
• Remove Kateena Street traffic lights – weekend of 26 to 27 of March 2011
• Kateena Street – no right turns from Saturday 26 March 2011
• Wirriga Street – no right turns from Saturday 26 March 2011
• Angle Road – no right turns from Saturday 26 March 2011

Construction times
Construction will generally take place during the day, however to minimise the impact on local businesses and traffic flow, some major construction will be undertaken at night and on weekends.

Access to the area
Access to all businesses located on South Road will be maintained at all times during construction. To avoid the roadwork, but still access businesses in Regency Park and Wingfield the suggested alternate routes include the new Gallipoli Drive, Rosberg Road and Johannson Road connection and Hanson Road. A map is attached. Secure access for pedestrians will be provided on South Road.

We remind motorists to please take care while travelling through this major construction zone which will have a speed limit of 40 km/h. Please observe all directions provided by signage and traffic controllers. Your cooperation and patience is appreciated during the project.

Stay in touch
We will be distributing regular notifications to provide up-to-date traffic management and construction information. As this information may change on a regular basis, we encourage you to register for email and SMS updates by sending your contact details to [email protected] or by calling us on 1300 638 789.

What’s next?
The next stage will involve moving the concrete barriers to create a safe work space in the centre of South Road between Grand Junction Road and Days Road. More information about these changes will be
provided in late April.

I've noticed part of the Golf Course area near the Days/South Roads intersection is fenced off and excavators are on site. Not sure if it's associated with the Superway?

Answer is in the post directly before yours I suspect.
