Photos of Adelaide Flexity tram 112 leaving the Bombardier plant in Germany have been posted here: http://tdu.to/149707.msg

This is the first of an additional four Flexity trams (112-115) to be placed into service on the Adelaide tram system.

just 2 months ago those photos would have been all white, Germany was pretty much burried in snow. :shock:

also what's up the Adelaide Metro website? every other Public transport site in Australia is working, why not Adelaide's!! :?

I was reading on a few other forums that the Adelaide Metro site has been hacked, so it's been down recently.

True, but I think the issue is worth splitting the thread for.

A big design flaw with Mawson Lakes station is that they did it on the cheap, with no way of crossing other than a very high bridge. Climbing the stairs to the bridge is like climbing those of a four storey house - and you don't see many four storey houses around, because they have too many stairs! And though that station has lifts, they're slow, quite small, and back when I commuted there they were frequently out of order.

But though a second bridge at a more reasonable height would help, it wouldn't solve the problem completely. I remember once at Goodwood station at night, someone thought the approaching train was going to the other platform, and he crossed the tracks to get there rather than using the tunnel. Then he discovered it wasn't, so he missed it (and presumably had to wait an hour). I expect a fence would have been very effective at stopping that, but I can't be sure.

Am I right in thinking the pedestrian crossing at Klemzig Station was put in because pedestrians were crossing the busway and climbing the fence rather than using the bridge?

Mawson lakes is fine, but of course it could be improved. 4 stories is a bit of hyperbole.

Several busier stations in Sydney don't even have lifts.

The crossing at Klemzig has always been there. It didn't always have traffic lights though.

It's got as many stairs as the three flights of stairs in four residential storeys would have!

Nor does Keswick - but it doesn't have that many stairs!

I'm sure there were originally signs on the fence saying NO CROSSING - USE BRIDGE

I don't think it helps either that the bridge between the two platforms is at the far end of the platform rather than near the middle. That problem also exists at Woodville and a number of other stations on the network.

Speaking of Stations, i had a look on the Government website:

Elizabeth, Munno Para, Elizabeth South and Gawler railway stations along the Gawler line are being upgraded as part of the program. Construction will be undertaken concurrently with track upgrade works to take advantage of the railway line closure from mid 2011.
A new car park will be constructed at Smithfield Station.
New and upgraded stations may see the development of:
Architecturally designed shelters to protect customers from inclement weather
Customer facilities including real time information, voice enunciators, hearing impaired induction loops and a self-maintaining public toilet
Improved platform furniture, wind blocks and signage
Improved facilities for customers and pedestrians including Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant access paths, steps, ramps and Tactile Ground Surface Indicators (TGSIs)
Enhanced safety and security of customers through the provision of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) security cameras, emergency phones, duress alarms and improved lighting
New bicycle facilities for cyclists
Landscaping incorporating Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) elements where practicable.
Project timing
Works for the Station Upgrades along the Gawler line start early 2011.
Project benefits
Upgrade of stations will provide safer, more accessible & efficient travelling experiences for the commuters.
Project cost
Funding for the station upgrade program has been provided by State and Commonwealth governments to the total of $110 million.

They should keep building up around Mawson Lakes, get rid of the fencing and install some escalators. That would make things better.
