City loop extension in tram proposal
Christie Peucker From: Sunday Mail (SA) April 03, 2011 12:00AM

A DRAFT masterplan for Rundle Mall shows potential for a tram along North Tce, Frome Rd and Grote St.

The detailed plan which will be presented to Adelaide City Council on Tuesday reveals tram stops at the North Tce entrance of David Jones and the UniSA apartments and a major bus interchange along Grenfell St.

A civic hub including a piazza and outdoor dining area has also been earmarked for the centre of the mall, along with set busking performance zones.

The entire city block bordered by the mall, King William and Grenfell streets and James Place has also been earmarked for development.

Rundle Mall Management Authority chairman Theo Maras said the plan revealed an early wish list. "This time we're not just looking at what colour the bricks on the ground are, we're looking at what will reinvigorate a 24/7 environment," he said.
cheers,
Rhino

hardly seems like a city loop to me - if they are going to start the loop and do it in parts I think we need to make sure we have a complete vision and work to that.

also we don't need Piazza's and "busking performace zones" - tha just seems all way too forced.

This is all good news, I think things are starting to happen in Adelaide! Piazza's , Public transport, Adelaide Oval, Riverside precinct, Victoria Square (lol) this is all good stuff!

Here's my estimation:

Id be very suprised if they ran the tram up the hill along that section of From rd Scooter Guy. the road is narrow enough as it is and a tram route isnt really required along that section as its mainly uni student foot traffic - the walk is manageable enough as it is. I would think the tram would turn right onto frome off north terrace and hook back towards grote st from there. pure speculation of course.

Please keep this thread on topic (even if The Tiser can't do the same in its articles). Tram fantasies belong in the Visions section.

Thanks

Shouldn't the thread title be changed by now?

Rundle Mall is far from dying these days.

Borders Rundle Mall has fallen victim to the liquidation of the company nation wide. It's a bit sad, I liked the rabbit warren feel of the store. It's much more intimate than the supermarket feel many others have.

Wow, that's a pity. Mind you, the actual stock that they carry isn't as good as it once was. When they opened it was a bit of a revelation, these days it feels rather more empty, what with the growing amount of homewares and gift wrap.

Zara? :P. Probably the right size for it

Pretty sad about Borders, though their days are numbered in this country and world-wide

Screw Zara, a Uniqlo would be much better ;)

Borders in the mall has been going down hill over the last few years. They used to be great for design and art books, but the section gradually got smaller and smaller. What they were still good for though was magazines. They stock quite a few niche magazines which you can't get anywhere else in the city. Until Magnation can finally get a store up in Adelaide, we'll be left with quite a hole.

There are a few newsagents with a large range in the city.
