Metro, no worries. As long as it was larger than an A320 it should be an A330. I cannot think of anything else. I don't think it was a B777, but without my glasses I cannot swear on it. I'll do some digging up and see what I come up with, unless someone else here knows more.

I visited Jetspotter and read through the thread Noteworthy movements for ADL April 2011. Didn't find anything for April 6th. However there's an image of an A330 from Sunday, April 3rd which you can find here VH-XFA. And yes it belongs to Virgin Blue. So I think I was right. Hopefully someone else can confirm this.

VH-XFA has been visiting Adelaide several times a week latley to perform training flights as Adelaide will be a main diversion airport for this service (SYD-PER) when it starts in May. Ho VH-XFA is totally devoid of any markings or colour. However the Strategic Airlines A330 has been into Adelaide a couple of times lately and seems to fit your description. I also saw that plane around the same time on Wednesday morning-it was white allover and was the A330 destined for Virgin.

bm7500, thanks for that, but now things are more confusing. The only way to know which A330-200 it was is by finding out who landed at that time on Wednesday. Anyway it is good to know Strategic has actually visited us. I don't follow the plane spotting boards etc., only interested in the tourism side of things. When I'm in the back garden I always try to spot what's flying past. Like today saw a Singapore Airlines A330-300 at about 2:45pm. Maybe it was running very late for Singapore. Couldn't see if it veered north and then northwest as I lost it behind the next door neighbours two storey house. All fun anyway.

Hi Guys, I have it on good authority that Virgin Blue, Pacific Blue, V Australia & possibly Polynesian Blue will become Virgin Australia officially within weeks.

There were 2 road blocks to this becoming a reality; Use of the Virgin branding on pacific routes & use of the Virgin Australia name by a separate company. Both issues have now been overcome and this paves the way for the new brand name & livery to be launched. I would expect it to be similar to that of Virgin America, but this is just hearsay.

It's pretty much one of the worst-kept secrets out there - certainly they are going to be capitalising on the troubles with the Qantas Group.

ADELAIDE AIRPORT RUNWAY RE-SURFACING COMPLETE

Adelaide Airport has completed re-surfacing of its runways and taxiways as part of essential maintenance works.
The overlay works, which are required to be carried out every 10 to 15 years, are part of Adelaide Airport Ltd?s (AAL) ongoing program to provide a safe operating environment for all aircraft.

Corporate Affairs General Manager, John McArdle, said the runway re-surfacing required significantly more bitumen than that used to reseal roads around Adelaide.
“All up the re-surfacing project required more than 50,000 tonnes of asphalt to cover 450,000 square metres of runways and taxiways,” Mr McArdle said. “The same amount of asphalt would be enough to reseal the 40km stretch of road between Adelaide and Maslin Beach.

“The airport also has replaced about 630 light globes with new LED light fittings to help reduce our carbon footprint.”
Mr McArdle said work had mostly been carried out during the airport?s curfew, between 11.00pm and 6.00am, to minimise disruption to scheduled services. During these times the cross runway, running south-east to north-west, was used for the small number of freight and emergency aircraft that are permitted to operate during these hours.
“I would like to especially thank local residents for their patience and understanding during the re-surfacing, particularly those under the flight path of the cross runway,” Mr McArdle said. “We undertook several measures to reduce the noise impact on the local community, such as limiting delivery of materials to daylight hours, turning off the reverse „beeper? sound on large vehicles, and building a five metre high concrete wall as a sound barrier around the bitumen plant site adjacent to the runway.”

AAL next major project is the construction of a new multi-level car park and pedestrian plaza.
Road works associated with the project are now under way, and the Federal Minister for Transport this week has approved the addition of a link bridge, which will allow pedestrians to walk from the car park to Terminal 1 without having to cross traffic. The $100 million project will more than double the size of the existing short-term car park, with five levels providing short-term parking for 2,000 public and car rental vehicles. The car park is expected to facilitate approximately 7,000 vehicle entries per day.

Virgin Blue to become Virgin Australia - V Australia brand likley to remain - Announcement May 4th.

Virgin Enterprises Limited, the brand management arm of Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group, has submitted the above logo to be trademarked with the Australian government's brand management body, IP Australia, who only displays black and white versions of submissions. The Virgin Australia name has been registered as a trademark for an airline name and affiliated services and Virgin Blue has taken steps to adopt the name. Trademark 1420517 is a blend of the Virgin America and Virgin Atlantic logos with the Virgin Australia logo sporting Virgin America's rectangular tail logo and featuring Virgin Atlantic's typeface.

What is most unique about the logo is that the "Virgin" lettering in the tail logo appears in a dark colour, unlike the white Virgin lettering featured on the Virgin Atlantic and Virgin America tail logos. Also unique is that both sides of the tail feature subtle angled shading

that is lightest in the middle. The right side appears to have stronger shading than the left side. The America and Atlantic logos only have a slight gradient on the upper right edge. The shadow on the Australia logo carries some nuances as well: the shadow is the strongest
on the left side, uniform on the top and right sides, and absent on the bottom. The Atlantic logo has no shadow while the America logo has a uniform shadow except on the top right portions. The light gray rendering of "Australia" suggests a red or purple colour lighter than those featured on the America or Atlantic logos will be used.

The alignment with Virgin Atlantic's visual identity has been expected, especially following Virgin Blue unveiling uniforms styled after the British carrier's dress.

It is understood Virgin Australia will be the brand for domestic operations while Pacific Blue, and possibly Polynesian Blue, will be folded into the V Australia brand. Earlier this week Virgin Blue chief executive John Borghetti re-affirmed his intention to reduce the number of brands in the Virgin Blue group, saying: "You won't see us, or you probably won't see us, move to one brand but I can guarantee a rationalisation."

Virgin Australia is expected to be officially unveiled on Wednesday 4 May in Sydney in the company of an Airbus A330-200 and Boeing 737 sporting the new livery designed by Hans Hulsbolsch and which was given a sneak peak earlier this month on an A330. The A330 had V Australia-like red bands around the engine cowlings and silver/gray registration marks like on the 777-300ER. Newly-deliveired 737 aircraft also feature the same silver/gray registration marks.

This past week Virgin Blue is understood to have filmed in China ground and air-to-air footage for the brand's re-launch video advertisement. Filmed were the airline's first A330-200, VH-XFA, in the new livery as well as Virgin Blue employees and Caucasian extras. A Virgin Blue spokeswoman did not return a call seeking comment.

Did anyone see a Qantas 747 at the airport on Monday morning? I believe it was QF30 from London-Hong Kong-Melbourne, which was diverted due to fog at Melbourne Airport. I was in Prospect at the time and couldn't be sure from the brief glimpse I got as it took off over the city, but the website below would seem to confirm it.

It is a Qantas plane not a Virgin blue plane.
