COM: SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre | $100m
Re: #COM: $100m State Swimming Centre
I went in today with the family for a look and was blown away. It's incredible inside, even though only the competition section was open, you still get a sense of how big it is. I could only imagine what the atmosphere will be when totally full at a national event!

I'm not remotely interested in national events but I just hope it will prove to be an impressive place for ordinary residents of Adelaide to enjoy a couple of hours relaxing and having fun.

The SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre will be the only swimming centre in Australia and one of few in the world that will qualify new rules set by FINA. Hopefully this means we can score the Olympic swimming trials next year and other major competitions.

I spose they've gotta pay for it somehow.
Recreational swimming admittance is around $7.
Is that a lot?
I feel like it is. But then again it is world-class (there's that term again) facilities.
Looks like they've done a great job though. My only criticism is that it really should've been built at North Adelaide but we all know that would've been an exercise in frustration dealing with the residents.

I was unaware Marion was a central, easy to access location for all people in this city.
West Lakes is more central than that shithole Marion.

I went last week. Too early for the waterslides, which is a shame.
Apart from the stupid locker system which requires you to keep a key, when everywhere else uses automatic locks, I can't really fault the place.

A key? Where are you supposed to put it...?dsriggs wrote:I went last week. Too early for the waterslides, which is a shame.

What happens is there's a slot on the lock on the inside of the door that you put a $2 coin in. When you close the locker door, you turn the key to lock it. You can only do it once, or you have to put in another $2 coin. You then have the choice of either: a) taking the key with you, hoping you don't lose it, or b) leaving the key in the lock, hoping somebody else doesn't think it's a free locker.
