once it's complete, you'll see why we we're all rooting for this. dw, taxes were going to rise anyway. Roads and hospitals will still get built, fear not!ricecrackers wrote:eat what words?

Quite. Now that the vote has been run and won, let's do it properly. Not on the cheap, not with exorbitant cash giveaways to every Tom, Dick and Harry with a construction company, but properly, transparently and sensibly.stumpjumper wrote:Well, that's the decision then. Let's find the best project managers, otherwise we are in for quite a ride. I suspect we might be anyway.
I've just been handed a copy of the SA Centre for Economic Studies Report. The total annual $ impact of $114 million is based on average attendance at Crows matches of 42,027 and average attendances at Power matches of 30,897.
Fingers crossed.

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/sout ... 6048665555AdelaideNow wrote:SACA members have strongly backed the proposed Adelaide Oval redevelopment in an historic outcome that paves the way for football to return to the city.
About 2000 SACA members arrived at the Wayville Showgrounds tonight for one of the defining nights in South Australia's sporting and cultural history.
Following two hours of presentations from cricket officials and questions from members, SACA President Ian McLachlan has announced that 80.37 per cent of voters had backed constitutional changes needed to pass the development.
A 75 per cent absolute majority was needed for the proposals to be carried forward.
Within minutes of the result being confirmed the Property Council of Australia (SA) has rejoiced at the outcome.
Executive director Natahn Paine said: "The Property Council congratulates the South Australian Cricket Association Members for their foresight and community spirit in voting to support the redevelopment of Adelaide Oval.
"This is the outcome that the vast majority of South Australians wanted - it’s a victory for common sense and progress.”

Followed the saga on Twitter and getting pessimistic during the long wait for the votes to be counted.
Ecstatic at the result! Adelaide will be a more vibrant city.

Well maybe this 'pro-development at all costs' website is indicative of the wider SA community.ricecrackers wrote:Will wrote:Securing a 75% yes vote was always going to be hard.Waewick wrote:welcome to SA
Look at the history of referendums in Australia.
The only places where 75% or more of the votes can be achieved in 'elections' are places like Zimbabwe, Syria and Cuba.
This outcome does NOT mean, SA is backwards or Adelaide is a country town. Just look at the results of the poll on this site, as a small snapshot of the wider SA community sentiment. The majority of people want it, it is just that we were left in the ridiculous situation where something so important was placed in the hands of so few.
It is sad, how quickly people forget the hundreds of developments happening in our city and state when presented with 1 negative outcome.
i would dispute that this pro-development at all costs site is indicative of the wider SA community sentiment but i agree that this outcome has nothing to do with whether SA is non-progressive or otherwise

Adelaide recovered years ago. I think a better description is that today, is the day negativism died.Waewick wrote:2/5/11

Absolutely agree. Sadly it appears that this won't happen any time soon.stumpjumper wrote: Now to get to work on Peter Manilauskas to convince him that use of AO should go hand in hand with liberal trading hours in the CBD.
