They would probably be very hot to sit on during summer.
Hey! They're new, and they're different (at least for Adelaide)! We should applaud any successful attempt to get through the wall of typically Adelaide constraints of public risk, cost, appropriate location, trader objections etc that beset any proposal in Adelaide for anything new.

Not having a go at you, crawf, but here's a good example of the 'Adelaide cringe'. Instead of having a go and undoing it if it doesn't work, our usual method is to argue about any proposal for months, eventually building nothing.

I like the seats. They may be hot for a few days in summer, but I think they earn their place in the public realm. I like the 'folded' school of design. There's a bit more pseudo-origami stuff under the new buildings at Uni SA West.

Speaking of constraints, Cr Plumridge should be congratulated on his continuing communications about council matters. Sure, the actual information is available on the ACC web site, but Cr Plumridge offers an informed opinion as well. It's too bad about Council's preference for keeping things 'in confidence', though. That has its place, but the default should be openness.

Looks like a new bridge will be lifted into placxe today as part of the parklands trail just near Port Rd and Park Tce. Lots of cranes around. Just a quick question to David, what were the outcomes of the wind turbine trial that was undertaken a while ago. Turbines were on a few buildings like the markets and the arts centre but have all disappeared.

Hi David, excuse my ignorance, but where is Oval 2?
There is a hint of new grandstands on Oval No 2 for displaced cricket activities which would almost certainly pose a threat to the trees north of that Oval and perhaps the SMA will want to squeeze in a new Crows Shed replete with a mini pokie palace!

The purpose of that bridge is (as far as I know) to carry the HVAC cables to the Keswick substation across the Torrens - walker / cyclist use is a bonus.

.
Am I in some parallel universe?

Aren't you the one who argues about almost every development here and has in-fact proposed we continue to argue about the Adelaide Oval redevelopment to see 'whether it is really a good idea'?

So immediately west of AO? is there truly room for a full oval there? i suppose some of the tennis courts could be removed. Although that space is half full of beer tents and food vans whenever a game is on.

It is now a 3rd of it's original size - but it used to be a full size oval - the redback juniors and womens teams used to play there as well as a few redback intra club warm up games (I used to go watch)

edit - Actually I could be wrong - I always thought that was Oval no.2 but perhaps the one on cnr War Memorial Drive and Sir Edmund Smith Avenue could be the one.

Oval Number 2 is where Waewick described. It already has an existing grandstand.

Some answers (and a comment)

- Oval No 2 is the one west of the new Western Stand and east of Montefiore Road. It is not a full oval but I presume it could be made suitable fo minor cricket matches. The tennis courts to the south are part of a completely separately lease held by Tennis SA as far as I can recall. There is definitely NO grand stand on Oval No 2 at this time.

- The wind turbines were a trial installation and they did not perform as had been expected and they were removed a couple of months ago.

- The new bridge is primarily to carry the new Electranet high tension cables across the river at that point. Pedestrian/bicycle access is a bonus but it is not a part of the actual Park Lands trail.

- Re confidentiality of Council's agendas, I am a long-time crusader for open Council proceedings but many matters on Council's agenda are of a business nature which require confidentiality. Often other people's business dealings are involved, or tenders are being considered or we have legal advice to receive or there are dealings with the Government where they often require us to deal with the matter behind closed doors. I don't like it and I am always looking to open up as much of the material as possible. Quite often the actual decision is made public with the Minutes of the meeting. I have also managed to get the subject matter of what is being discussed included in the heading of the Agenda Item. But we keep battling for more openess!

Acting Lord Mayor,

Hi David, what is the estimated cost of the Victoria Square upgrade? we all repeatedly see $100m stated in the media, but I believe the real cost is somewhat lower. Also, across what period will the $24m committed by the ACC be raised and spent?

Thanks in advance.

cheers...

Wayne
