Surely both the HS facade and the Roger David store fronts would have looks better being used?
I'm glad at least one of the original builindgs are being retained but why just that one?
This building on the corner of Grenfell Street and Coromandel Place is completely surrounded by Australis House.
If done correctly, the contrast between a quiant old building and a larger modern one can work well and be interesting to the eye.

Last look at the "Harris Scarfe" logo on the mall side. The hammering begins

Hmmm... Could look good in the garden?
(was the fancy iron work at the top of the building)

Excellent pics, Demo!
For starters, my avatar is the well-known Adelaide Aquatic Centre insignia from 1989.

I remember about 1994 or 1995 when the Harris Scarfe facade was given a facelift and I saw something on the TV news about it, and they made quite a big deal about that bit of ironwork being revealed, after spending many years covered by some sort of cladding until then!

Had a quick look at the site this morning. Looks like most of the Rundle Mall facade is gone already although it's hard to tell behind the scaffolding. From Grenfell St there's not that much left of the store and you can see straight through it mostly!
Susan has been completely gutted and all that remains is the exterior walls (no roof or seperating floor).
The first few poles have been erected in front of Susan forming the beginning of a longer term hoarding (presumably it will stretch across the whole front of the site soon).
My guess is that what remains of the store will be pretty much gone in about a week from now, although it may take a bit longer to remove the surrounding structures (what's left of Susan, Sanity and Dusk and the buildings in the laneways) and I'm not sure how much remains of the Harris Scarfe basement but I guess it will be dug out once everything above ground is gone?

What is the current status of the basement Demo? Are the internal walls of the basement still there, and is the concrete slab seperating the basement from the ground floor still there?
Is there anything else still in the basement such as fixtures and fittings?

Paint job and a few other things
It is very dingy, though I wouldn't say it's the worst. That award most likely goes to the old Truscotts carpark on Franklin St.

Some great pics there Mr Scooter Guy
Basement is just full of debris from demolition, no ground floor slab. It will be all trucked out after the building is gone then basement slab pulled and loaded out...
Push button, your assumption of works isnt far from the plan
Keep posted for some more internal pics soon

If for some reason there was a financial depression which sent everyone broke, is it possible for the developers to pull out leaving us with a big hole?
Don't burn the Adelaide Parkland (preservation society)
