It's making an impression on the skyline around Vic Sq - Waymouth Exchange & Allegra will soon be blocked from view

Quite an impact already, and there's still another dozen levels to go. Can't wait!

love watching the progress on this building. heres a couple of shots from Vic Sq
poor old dude has a crazy climb to get to his 'office' lol, took him a little while. i was wondering why this crane isnt bolted to the building like the other one? i could see it visibly swaying on this day, it was pretty windy.
would love a slightly wider lens, but point and shoot camera fail, lol.
I also shot a couple of short timelapse sequences, but they are on facebook. might upload to vimeo or something if i find motivation

Thanks for your great photos - and welcome to the forum!
The Eastern crane will be attached to the building via a climbing collar, that same as the Southern crane, in fact you can see part of the yet to be installed brace in your last photo on the gantry.

oh nice! hopefully im around (and not too busy) on the day it gets installed.
and thanks for the warm welcome. i found this site due to my love of buildings and adelaide. seeing some of the development projects that are going to be happening in our city in the next few years has me excited about living here again. hopefully it will lead to an increase in work in future

Its not quite tall enough yet. The western crane is a few tower sections taller and is probably now (or soon to be) too tall to be freestanding. The ties and the climbing collar are unrelated - the climbing collar is for inserting additional tower sections, not bracing the tower against the building.bike19 wrote:I was wondering why this crane isnt bolted to the building like the other one? i could see it visibly swaying on this day, it was pretty windy.

Here's a couple more photos - taken yesterday afternoon and this morning. They show the progression of the lift core (level 8 now showing). (sorry about the shadow on the afternoon photos)

those floor plates are just ridiculously large. Even at 50% of their size, they'd still be big. No wonder its 72m tall

Just think of oll the business coming to the local eateries - how many thousand would work in a bldg like that?spiller wrote:those floor plates are just ridiculously large. Even at 50% of their size, they'd still be big. No wonder its 72m tall

The glazing brackets are now on levels one to three, so I'd expect our first look at some glass to not be far off.
[COM] Re: U/C: City Central 8 - Aust Tax Office | 72m 18lvls
The glass will make or break this building. Even something as minor as the colour of the blinds will also be important. The white blinds adjacent the transparent green glass for CC1 was a big mistake imo.
There are at least 3 different colours of glass proposed as well. It will be interesting to see how it comes together.
