I'd say that's a list of tenants for the new area rather than new retailers to the centre. Almost all of them are new but there are a few that are already there.

This is really not a great time to be launching this type of development, but I suppose they'll be hoping they buck the trend. You just wonder how some of these stores will go - and why a store like Zara would try here first and not in a more prominent location in the CBD. Oh well, good luck to them.

In Adelaide, large quantities of disposable money can be found in the eastern suburbs. Not in the City.

Zara is nothing fancy, is like a slightly upmarket version of H&M and they're everywhere in Europe just like H&M

Let's face it, the predominant customer base at Burnside is senior citizens, and of course there is more money to splash around in the eastern suburbs, but you already have the Parade, Unley Road, King William Road and Rundle Mall/Street, and to a lesser extent Westfield Marion, competing for business. So while that money may be more apparent in the eastern suburbs than the city, at least the city is a destination where the most people go - the buses and trains don't go to Burnside Village. I'm sure all the businesses see potential in the new development, but at the same time this is more likely to be a ghost town than the CBD where all the workers are. And as metro pointed out, if Zara is not a real high-end brand, I'm sure they'll look to the CBD eventually where there's greater potential.

Well thats besides the point - how many upmarket consumers do you think would be bothered that trains and buses do not run to BV?

Of course yes, the Circle Line and an infrequent bus up Greenhill Road - it is my local shopping centre. Going out on a limb here but I was just disputing the idea that the city is somehow less important from a retail point of view.

Sydney and Brisbane now have luxury malls in their CBDs.

Realistically, the people who shop at Burnside Village will drive there. They won't catch public transport. The type of people are exactly the ones that will have no problem spending money on clothing made overseas, but will complain to the moon about having to pay more than $2 to park their Porsche Cayenne in the city.

A shop like Zara is a big loss to Rundle Mall. I've been to the Sydney store in the Pitt St Mall and if the line up was anything to go by, it'll certainly attract a lot of people. Stores like this really should be in the city.

Vee, it's a soft opening from 20/10/11, with a Gala blah blah on 11/11/11. Not sure how the RSL would feel about it but assume BV would not be stupid enough to do anything pre-midday, especially given they have BBDO doing their PR.

Interestingly, the existing tenants are not invitied to the Gala (or at least have not received invitations), whereas the VIP Shoppers have already received their invitations (got mine, thanks Andrew, I'll see you there).

Oh, and for those of you who got REALLY excited about the prospect, Zara won't be opening until Q1 2012 - that's the inside word from a few sources on-site.

Burnside Village's redevelopment opening delayed

THE opening of Burnside Village’s $100 million redevelopment has been delayed by almost two weeks.

The opening was scheduled for Thursday, October 20, but has been pushed back to Tuesday, November 1.

A Burnside Village spokeswoman said the delay was because the centre’s management wanted as many stores as possible open for the launch.

She said 21 of the 35 new stores including Mimco, Oroton and sass & bide would open on November 1.

Spanish fashion retailer Zara is expected to open in late November.
