I agree with what was said earlier about Johnnies being a great loss to this state.

I also think that even now particularly it was a bad decision to drop a lower end department store. Look at this article just a month ago:

Johnnies was not just a great place to shop but it was an Adelaide icon & fantastic corporate citizen.

The Christmas Pageant is its legacy and it will also be remembered for bringing the Beatles to Adelaide.

Hey I'm new - I'm just reviving this thread because I would love to see if any other members have any more pictures of the two old department stores?

I would love to particularly see any pictures of the lifts at either the old David Jones, John Martins or Harris Scarfes.

That old David Jones building was so nice inside. It was so classy and elegant. I thought it was one of the nicest looking stores in Rundle Mall.
Their current new store is hideous. It is only 10 years old and it already looks tired.
