Strange date for an opening - Melbourne Cup Day.

Hoping for lower crowds, less attention in the news, other?
I can't see a lot of interest in the fashion stores from the hordes of fashionistas who will be at the races and Cup lunches/functions all over the place.

Can't they pick a date that doesn't conflict with something else? Soft opening on Melbourne Cup day and gala opening on Remembrance Day.

I'll take the Zara opening as printed however given the Cohen Group's track record of on-time delivery (next to 0%) I won't be holding my breath.

Height clearance bars (2.1m) have now been added to the Burnside Village car park entrances off Cator St and off Portrush Rd, when turning south into the adjacent parking area.

Landscaping appears to be complete.
There are numerous planter boxes featured throughout the uncovered car parking area. Some of these are difficult to see when reversing and could be a trap for the unwary. Judging by the scrape marks on the sides, this has already happened - and this is before the official opening! The Centre needs to look at the design of these, and pre-empt the rise in Crash Repair business and complaints, with a few modifications.

THE $107.5 million Burnside Village redevelopment opens to the public today.

New outlets in the 7300sq m expansion were to have begun trading in October, but were postponed because construction was behind schedule. The official opening on November 11 will be an invite-only event.

The 17 retailers trading from 9am today include sass&bide, Karen Millen, Husk, Oxford and the Make Up Store. The launch date of Spanish fashion chain Zara is yet to be confirmed

I had a wander around the redeveloped Burnside Village today.
It's going to be a fashionista's paradise with so many new fashion shops and a few more in the setup stages. The new stage integrates with the old via the atrium and vine covered mall and the underground car park has been greatly expanded.

I was expecting a second level with a balcony, given the scale of the extension with the giant canopy. It looks like very high ceilings for the shops with mezzanine storage above?

The huge gum tree under the canopy looks surprisingly healthy and the area beneath provides a large, light-filled space for catching up: coffees, light meals etc. It would be nice to have a choice of cafés on offer (other than Cibo) in this space. (There are other cafés in the excellent food section at the other end).

The plan and directory shows a café/restaurant (H by Felici) will be located on the edge of the Zara store. This has a wide, elevated terrace alongside and accessible from the carpark and Sydney St, so hopefully this will include a large alfresco dining area - smoke-free please!
I had hoped that there would be a greater area of non-fashion businesses open beyond normal shopping hours to add to the vibrancy of the area.

It's all very pleasant and upmarket but my preference is still the broader mix of shops and cafés/restaurants along the cosmopolitan Norwood Parade.

I was surprised to hear CK Jeans opened today. They really are getting some big and unique names to Adelaide. Shame the CBD is unable to attract them.

It does seem that the Mall is often a lot of talk and no action, whereas Burnside Village just shut-up and got down to business signing up new retailers. Credit to them signing Zara - I think that's by far the biggest coup of them all.

Wow, that is a coup for Adelaide. Brisbane and Perth don't have one yet.

That is massive for Burnside for scoring brands such as Zara and now CK Jeans. This is going to give them a big advantage over other retail precincts, eg Rundle Street and Unley.

Just a shame these brands aren't opening in the city.. nevertheless still very good news for Adelaide

it turns green. It does make it easier to find a park as you just need to look for a green light
and you can see the lights from a fair distance.

It's something new anyway I've never seen it before. I am not sure if it will take off though, seems
a bit silly to me.

I've actually thought that this is quite a smart idea. In addition to the regular spots, they have some lights that are purple to mark out the disabled car parking spots. They can be a little be misleading though particularly when you come across drivers who can't park properly - reversing in and out of the spot to park correctly.

The off-street carparks at Glenelg (Partridge St. and, um, the other one) have solar-powered signs indicating the number of parks left. I have a sneaking suspicion they're often, er, wrong.

Farview Green shopping centre at Fairview Park also has the parking indicators. A simple but great idea!
