Re: News: Adelaide City Council
Just a taste of things to come, if "Occupy Adelaide" attempts to shut part of the CBD down (I don't use twitter or facebook, so not following them)

Re: News: Adelaide City Council
Thanks, David for your notes.
Some thoughts on a few items.
TREE PLANTING STEPPED UP (Million Trees Program).
- included planting of approx 1,000 advanced trees and 4,000 tube stock covering most areas of the Park Lands.
Good news.
Are there any plans to add more trees to the city streets which don't have any? There are some significant streets (or sections of streets) that are bare - no shade or ornamental trees to soften the streetscape.
VICTORIA PARK SELL-OUT
One word for my reaction to this.
D - I - S - A - S - T - E - R!!!!
No funds left for the landscaping???? This is so disappointing.
Victoria Park should be a jewel in the crown.
I would like to see more multifunctional use of Victoria Park as well as aesthetical improvements.
The loss of horseracing (a prime use since the earliest days of the colony) was a sad blow.
The failure to build the permanent structure for the motorsports was a lost opportunity. Now we have stands and other infrastructure being set up and taken down over a long period - with all the added cost and inconvenience.
Nightscape Lighting Incentive Scheme pilot
Great. This reminds me of the buzz and interest generated during the Northern Lights Festival along North Terrace.
Trials of 40kph speed limits
Good move. This is an overdue safety measure for areas with high pedestrian traffic eg central CBD and concentrations of alfresco dining (Gouger St., Rundle St. etc.)
Bicycle Action Plan
Fantastic news for our city.

Re: News: Adelaide City Council
I too am puzzled by the mass of bitumen roads in Victoria Park. And it appears my suspicions are confirmed - access routes for the boganfest that we know as the Clipsal 500..wasn't this meant to be a "world class park" rivaling NY Central Park ? Such a wonderful opportunity!
Who is responsible for this? The ACC or the State Govt? Between this and Victoria Square you can't seem to manage much can you? Sorry for the jaded post, but honestly what more is there to conclude?

Re: News: Adelaide City Council
Sorry just to clarify, is it the council who has taken these loons (preachers) to the courts?
This situation HAS to be dealt with before december. Its going to undo alot of the work the council and Rundle management have done in advertising and building up the reputation of the mall. Might as well just chuck all that money at building a big tent to trap them all in whilst they are out there rehearsing their spiel.
This subject makes me angry...

Re: News: Adelaide City Council
I spoke to one for the first time last night to see what they were like.
One word: brain washed. Ok thats 2
I tried to be diplomatic and say I understand you are making a point but 2 things are wrong. 1. the location and 2. your means. He totally did not get it and just kept saying " When your in Hell you will wish you listened to those preachers in Rundle Mall".
They actually believe they are helping us and the tourists out which is why they have chosen this location. They actually have mental issues.
A lot of the churches are trying to get the message across they do not condone this sort of behaviorl and it in fact goes against a lot of their teachings.

they so are brainwashed. I believe the mall traders should have the right to tell the preachers to GTFO! If you were to try it in a westfield you'd be thrown out by security, same should happen in the mall.

Agree. I'd rather the vic square funding was put towards an upgrade and "greening" of Grenfell Street.metro wrote:wish those Grenfell St pictures could become reality soon.
Re: News: Adelaide City Council
Councilors, I have a suggestion. the money put aside for Victoria Square in this years budget could be put forward to complete the upgrade of Rundle Street and also to complete a makeover of Grenfell Street as per the below design, with trees and wide footpaths etc. this would make much more impact then a few trees in vic Square

stop using the terms quirky/funky/cool etc - it makes the whole excercise look like it was done by a yr 12.
the thing that cracks me up with these idealistic pieces is the things people want to see are vastly different to what people will actually use.
things "quirky" shops which everyone love to talk about but rarely actually buy.
It's like boutique beers - everyone loves to see them in the bottle shop but rarely buy them in place of their cheaper generic alternative.
