With it not being included in the actual proposed site, I hope it stays and gets expanded. At the moment the exterior and side block does look a little dreadfulWhile the Jade Monkey entertainment venue is currently a contributor to noise levels it is proposed to be demolished and therefore does not need to be considered in any noise attenuation requirements.

That's sad. Personally I hope this proposal doesn't get off the ground for that reason alone. It's ridiculous that the hotel doesn't require that space at all, but they're going to demolish it regardless. What's the point? Surely having a quality entertainment venue set in a historical building next door to your hotel is better than an empty dust bowl
I'm surprised it's not heritage listed, given the age of the building. It's got more reason to be on the list than most of the rubbish cottages dotted around the city that are protected.

yeah, don't do a fantastic development because some shitty old building might get knocked over and an entaintment business (which can move) might be effected.

I know the developers often visit this site...
Why would you possibly consider demolishing The Jade Monkey if it's not part of the development???
This is a step backward. Adelaide needs these types of cool live music venues. It's like the hotel is one step forward, but if it comes with losing the Jade it's two steps backward.
Surely there is a way around this. We should be trying to make Adelaide more vibrant etc rather than robbing us of entertainment venues.
Think about it Pruzsinski.

Pruszinski are the architects. They get told what to do and design based on that. It would be the developers (Hines) decision. Plus we don't know what this "seperate application" holds. It could be something worth demolishing that building for.

give me a break
knocking down the jade monkey is 2 step backwards but this development is only 1 forward?
it is good to see however how members of this board can let baseless emotion get in the way of things (sounds familar ) in the same way of those that have held the city back in the past.
It appears the sensational Adelaide board may need to be renamed , "don't knock over some old buildings when you try and build new buildings Adelaide"

Should be a nice density filler.
I'm not a big fan of the Jade Monkey building itself, so IMO no big loss.

I think this is a pretty ordinary development.Waewick wrote:yeah, don't do a fantastic development because some shitty old building might get knocked over and an entaintment business (which can move) might be effected.
However the 27 lvl hotel proposal on Currie St, that is a fantastic development!!

let me get this straight.
we're trying to inject life into the Rundle Mall precinct after hours, and demolishing the only live music venue in the area is going to do that?
i don't visit the Jade Monkey regularly, but it is popular. not every bar or club has to look modern and bright. many people like the grungy atmosphere. there is definitely a huge market for it these days.

if there is demand for the live muisc venue in the area it will be re-born somewhere.Mants wrote:let me get this straight.

Hang on for a second, do we actually know for sure that Hines could possibly be part of the Jade Monkey site?

[COM] Re: PRO: 122 Grenfell Street | 59m | 17 Levels | Hotel
So they show one little render of Grenfell street with a few trees and widened footpaths and everyone is drooling over it... yet when a proposal for a hotel that unnecessarily demolishes a well attended and utilised live music venue that adds what every one seems to want Adelaide to have (nightlife, laneway, fun, extra people etc) no one wants to bat an eyelid?
What the what???
What the what???
[COM] Re: PRO: 122 Grenfell Street | 59m | 17 Levels | Hotel
the hotel will replace anything the Jade Monkey offers
actually I imagine it will only add to the area given it will become a lane way that is used for a decent period of time.
