call me stupid (ok don't)

by the $40M if the council say no, then surely a tram spur down their would cost something similar given it cost $100M from Vic Square to Uni SA? (or was that Uni Sa to Port Adelaide?)

we would then have the commencement of a tram extension to an area that actually makes sense.

The original tram extension from Victoria Square to City West cost $31 million. Less than the $40 million figure being thrown around for the new pedestrian bridge.

thanks AG

so is my logic flawed - but if we get the public transport to the people rather than the people to the public transport it is a win win?

if $31M got us to city west, then surely $40M would get us to say the Hospital.

I'm not sure if Trams will be capable of climing the Hill to Oconnell.

Not sure if serious?

Trams climbed that 'hill' back in the day.

If the council hold up or block the pedestrian bridge proposed, or force it to be watered down(assuming the design is great and pisses off those nimby relics), there better be a push to have the council stripped of all powers and relegated to garbage collectors and street cleaners.

from independent weekly:
Oval deal clears final approval

ADELAIDE Oval’s redevelopment will start almost immediately with the project passing its final administrative hurdle this morning (Nov 9). Parliament’s Public Works Committee brought forward its analysis of the project to a special meeting starting at 7.30am today.

The committee started its examination last Wednesday and remaining matters were adjourned until an expected date of November 16.

The State Government’s head of infrastructure, Rod Hook, appeared before this morning’s final meeting along with project manager David Johnson, from engineering firm Mott Macdonald.

Just after 9am the committee hearings concluded, the project was approved and Mr Hook headed off to oversee the start of the $450 million construction project.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Adelaide Oval project signed off
From: AAP November 17, 2011 1:43PM

ADELAIDE Oval's redevelopment is set to start with the South Australian Government officially signing off on its construction.

SA Infrastructure Minister Patrick Conlon signed the $350 million construction contract with Baulderstone Australia Ltd, one the country's largest building and engineering companies today.

It follows approval from SA Cabinet and Adelaide City Council on the project.

The redevelopment of the historic oval will create a 50,000 capacity multi-purpose sports stadium, bringing AFL football to the inner-city.

The project has generated environmental and political controversy with inter-sport disagreements and fears of cost blowouts.

But 12,000 South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) members voted to approve the plan in May, allowing AFL to share the ground with cricket.

The Government promised to fund the stadium, and also clear SACA's $85 million debt, but capped their contribution at $535 million, although the final cost is unknown.

Preliminary works will begin next month with full scale construction to start after the cricket season.
Should see some site works commencing next month! Exciting times ahead.

and then in another thread:
That's not my issue - my issue has and always will be the fact that the Government is spending $535m on a half-arsed shitty stadium design which makes it look like a giant toilet seat.

I support the redevelopment of AO 'in-principle' - frankly any redevelopment is better than none at all.
