...so if I get on an unconducted tram and I don't have a ticket... I just ride for free, since there's nobody to sell me a single trip ticket?

There will most likely be ticket machines on the trams, just like on trains.

The trams here get very crowded, installing huge ticket and recharge machines on our tiny trams seems like a silly thing to do, also wouldnt it require at least 1 per disabled space for it to be compliant with the DDA1992, so on the flexity trams they'd need one at each end and on the Citadis they'd also need 2?

Similar issue on the trains, would require at least 1 machine per disabled space on the train, on the existing trains that's 1 per carriage, on the new trains they could probably do one at each end, all of this will just take up space on trains on a network that is likely to experience a big rise in passenger numbers over the next few years. Best to keep them on the stations and at tram stops where there is plenty of space, also it's how just about every other city does it

Trams get crowded everywhere not just Adelaide. You can get smaller machines that could fit in our trams, which I'm pretty sure they already do in other cities including tram capital Melbourne.

I agree about train stations as they carry more passengers, but disagree about putting them on tram stops. There is simply no room on many of the stops, especially in the city.

Yobs face public transport ban Image PUBLIC transport troublemakers who refuse to curb their behaviour will for the first time be banned from city trains, trams and buses, in a crackdown by the Transport Department.
Incidents such as a king-hit on a train conductor captured on CCTV in November have prompted the Government to draw up a "hit list" of Adelaide's worst public transport menaces.

Starting this month, the department will begin prosecuting a group of 12 repeat offenders responsible for multiple offences such as fare evasion and antisocial, indecent or violent behaviour.

One man targeted in the crackdown has more than 50 previous convictions for failing to pay fares.

Those identified as repeat offenders will be brought before the Passenger Transport Standards Committee for hearings behind closed doors and, if convicted, will be excluded from public transport for up to six months.

Transport Department operations service manager Rocky Caruso said his staff were happy that repeat offenders would be weeded out of the system.

"They are very encouraged with the actions that they can see being taken at the moment, because it gives them backup with the law," Mr Caruso said.

For a person to be subject to an exclusion order, they must have committed at least three antisocial-behaviour or fare-evasion offences.

Acting Public Transport Services executive director Randall Barry said a key aim of the crackdown was to ensure commuters enjoyed a hassle-free journey.

"Our employees are probably more used to this type of behaviour and are a little bit more resilient to that behaviour; but members of the public are not used to that and can find it very intimidating," Mr Barry said.

"We are not just targeting violent offenders but people who shout and scream on public transport, which causes great distress for other passengers."

Mr Barry said a range of behaviours could be deemed anti-social.

"There are a number of behavioural issues that we deal with, including consuming alcohol, multiple vandalisms such as graffiti, scratching windows and marking trains; while offensive behaviour can range from indecent behaviour, aggression towards staff and other passengers, and other things of that nature," he said.

A banned person would face potential criminal charges if they tried to board public transport.

"These people often become known to our staff through the frequency of their offending, so they will be able to identify them if they try to board public transport and will call police if that occurs," Mr Barry said.

He said that while assaults such as the November 15 incident at Warradale station were uncommon, any such attack on staff called for a stronger stance.

"Assaults are the extreme end of the scale. It would probably be the most serious matter that we have on our network ... it doesn't happen every day but every such episode is one we do not want." Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

So lets say PT is your only means of transportation and one saturday night you mouth off at someone and you get banned for 3 months and then its good bye employment.

Is that really fair?

I think a fine would suffice.

Completely fair.

If someone can't control themself on a Saturday night, then they should drink less. And if they're not drunk, they should get introspective on their own arse.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

It says they're targeting repeat offenders.

the problem is we make allowances for these types of people all the time which only encourages the behaviour.

a fine would be more fitting I agree, but I just don't think people get the right response from fines - how much of a fine if fair for mouthing of at someone ?

they need to do something which address people's belief they have the right to negatively impact others life/belongings without consequence.

the re-offending, violent ferals need to be micro-chipped so it sets off alarms if they enter anywhere they aren't meant to go. If they re-offend again, exterminate them
