Thanks David, so I am under the impression that you favor the construction of buildings - for example; resemble form similar to 1930's era NYC skyscrapers?

And not to rebut your opinion, but the ideology of a pyramidical skyline is reason why development has been stunted, because there are so _few_ large allotments available within the "core" of the CBD to be built upon, and where there is - the economic cost of doing so is unjustifiable to demolish a building, when we have surplus room to build elsewhere in the CBD, outside the core.*

The ACC needs to acknowledge that the city core is not constrained by the boundaries of Morphett/Gouger-Angus/North and Pulteney streets, as the 'core'. Light's Vision set out the purpose of the parklands, so to distinguish the city, as the core, from the suburbia - I don't understand reason why there is a need to enforce another and further restraint within the CBD?

* Sydney is a good example in why developers build taller, because there is room constraint, and they can economically justify demolishing swathes of 50-80m skyscrapers to build 140-200m new ones.

Is there a way to contact you where I can submit a brief outline of my proposed direction to the Development Plan, concerning height limitations?

I’m Back!

Apologies for being off line so long – my excuse is a baby (4 months old now), university (1/2 way through an MBA) and an overseas study tour.

I have had a magnificent year with research undertaken in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Edmonton, Vancouver, Seattle and San Francisco as well as learning from talking to people like you. I am keen to learn more, share ideas and progress Adelaide - if you would like to meet please email a request and I will arrange a time.

This Wednesday evening at 6pm I will be speaking on “2020 Adelaide: World’s Most Liveable City” as the Sustainability Drinks guest speaker at Saldechin (21 King William St) – all are welcome.

I have also just posted on my blog site – I believe I am the first politician in Australia to go paperless – check out the Dell XT2 info @ http://stephenyarwood.blogspot.com/

Cheers

Welcome back Clr Yarwood :)

I would be interested to hear what you learnt in Seattle.

Seattle and Portland have some progressive ideas regarding community involvement in creating the "urban landscape". For example, Seattle has the Neighborhood Matching Fund and Portland has the City Repair Project. Did you happen to hear anything about these?

I think it would be great to see Adelaide mature past the idea that top-down urban planning is always the only path available. And Seattle and Portland, while not perfect, have a lot of experience to share, it seems to me.

Nice work, Councillor. I wonder if it would be easier for offices to go paperless if display sytems like the one used on the Kindle become more mainstream? It seems very comfortable to read, more so than an LCD.

Like Queen Anne, I'm interested to hear what you were studying up here in Seattle.

I have to write a report for council on my trip so I will publish it here as well. That said I have tried to attach my annual newsletter and even tho it’s under 1MB I am being told the "board attachment quota has been reached" - any ideas gurus?

Queen Anne I did not hear about the Neighbourhood Matching Fund but will chase this up.

Cheers

It's a system wide problem, the forum's run out of storage space. Keep an eye on the "Website Related" forum for when it's resolved.

Hi Clr, if you post your newsletter here (similar to what David Plumridge does) then it will be viewed by 100s of people :-)
