The austere 'prison look' is not exactly welcoming in appearance. Can't see this type of station getting more people (residents or visitors) to use public transport.
The bottom level, yet to be finished, has much more character.
The Port deserves better.

That Pt. Adel. stn. looks like a prison compound is true. Disappointing so far.One would hope the extra $9m will bring MORE cover, MORE seats, LED destination screens, toilets, advertising boards to brighten it up, colour scheme to that corrugated iron, plants. Looks very austerity driven.
IMO an inviting place will help usage.

The pictures might be a tad misleading; that's not corrugated iron, it's metal mesh, similar to what we've seen at other recently rejuvenated railway stations. It's definitely an improvement on the urine stained structure we had there before, if a tad unwelcoming.

I would say the destination screens will be coming..
The real improvement here is a serious security camera system. I've seen the one at Oaklands up close and these new camera fitouts at the stations are worth several hundred thousand dollars alone. They have motion sensors and all sorts of stuff. Decent security means the station is going to last longer from vandals and will certainly encourage people to use it.

Dear Sir / Madam,
I write to update you on the Hallett Cove Station upgrade and provide information about what will be happening in coming months. You may have noticed that a number of major work components have been progressed including:
* The new 123 space carpark with improved lighting and CCTV
* Construction of new platform surfaces
* Construction of a new roundabout on Perry Barr Road.
Upcoming works include the installation of platform shelters and an architecturally designed canopy.
Night works will be undertaken from 8 pm on the night of Friday 28 May 2010. Every effort will be made to minimise noise where possible and train services will run to the regular timetable.
Elsewhere, the Coast to Vines trail is closed between the Hallett Cove Station and Weerab Court until 2 June. Alternative routes:
· Pedestrians: Travel south on Perry Barr Road, turn right onto the new temporary ramp located approximately 100 m south of the new roundabout, follow path down the embankment and onto Weerab Court.
· Cyclists: Travel south on Perry Barr Road, turn right at Capella Drive, turn right onto Coast to Vines trail and follow to Weerab Court.

Yep the station looks quite bare. Surely there's a market for some advertising (bill boards) at the station? That would introduce some colour and distraction. Also generate a bit of cash...

Hopefully the closure of the gawler line means several cars are freed up for the other lines. No more standing in peak hour for a while

Only part of the Gawler Line will be closed though, so the extra carriages will be minimal.

There is a LED destination screen at ground level, at the base of the ramps. Handy as it means you can see if there is enough time to go buy some junk food from nearby on weekends.

Hi all
Anybody wishing to follow the progress of the Hallett Cove rebuild, i have been following it closely ( as growing up in the area, its good to see it changing for the better)

As for the gawler line closure, At the moment Nth Adelaide station has had its base layer excavated, and the rail is missing up until Torrens Rd, with the Down line un-clipped/dogged up until Pym st. The crossover at Pym st was being re-sleepered today, and some of the contractors was telling us, the ripping up of the rail between Ovingham and Pym street will take place tomorrow.
While at Dry creek, A set of points and crossovers is sitting next the Cormack Rd crossing ready to be installed. At the Pt Wakefield Rd bridge, all track has been removed and points are starting to go in already.
This project seems to been going at steady rate and should hopefully be done ontime

Also does anyone have any information as to what track maintenance is happenning with the closure of the noarlunga line between Brighton and the City This long weekend?

Big pile of concrete sleepers and ballast at Oaklands station, so work would be around that area somewhere.
