With the continuing global uncertainity, stock markets and commodoties in free fall, consumer spending at its lowest in 50 years, and the SA retail sector currently in a downturn - 3 months straight now - I'm starting to question the viability of the retail component of this development at present. There is no way, no how, that 80-90 retail outlets can be expected to open up shop if the circumstances continue at present, and all indicators for retail point south.

oh ffs people stop whining! The render isn't all that bad! Looks as good, if not better than southern cross. But yeah as for the retail sector, yup its up shit creek, maybe people are finally starting to realise that accumulating cheap crap is not going to make them happy!

retail might be up shit creek but the food court and supermarket are definitely needed, also harris scafe needs it's main site on the mall back. There are still 2 years, the retail sector could improve, but if it doesnt then we have plenty of space there for whenever it does.

Agreed - that is the nature of the economic cycle. Just how deep the curent bear market will go is the question.

Article in today's paper reporting that Bendigo Adelaide Bank have recently signed the formal lease documentation for the office component due to be completed November 2013. Refers to the development as 72m and same height as the black stump building. Not quiet the same height Advertiser!

What was the original height of this proposal meant to be? 98m, or something? That's pretty close to the Black Stump building's height... maybe that's where the journo got mixed up, or hopefully - knows something, that we don't.

Does anyone know when and how many cranes will be on this site?

I don't know, but given the site's mammoth size (for the retail levels; floorplates appears bigger than CC8) I'd venture to guess 2 cranes.

Reading the development docs, there will be strictly no access from anywhere other than Grenfell Street. Given that, I can't see how they can move material around the huge site with anything less than two cranes.

I haven't seen the site for a few weeks now. What's happening there at the moment?
