I would have though that the QLD government would be better off put a nomination
in for Brisbane rather than the GC, since the facilities are there in Brisbane.
Brisbane's already had them in 1982, so nominating again would be a retrograde step!
If the South Brisbane Sprawl really wants to try to convince us that it's a major city in its own right, that's their business. It's not as if they're at all likely to beat Abuja anyway.

Oceania region as far as the Commonwealth Games is concerned. Of the other five regions:
The Americas last had the\ games in Victoria (BC) in 1994
Africa has never had it yet, but is likely to in 2018
Asia had them in 1998 and will again this year.
Europe has them most often, and will again in 2014
And
The Carribean hasn't had them since 1966, so any bid there is likely to be the sentimental favourite if they run in 2022.
