Nice picture. It's slowly starting to rise off the ground, hopefully quickly now like the Ibis hotel did, as Phantom mentioned. Thanks for the picture, phenom.
Unrelated, but what is that building on the opposite side of Gawler Place? When was it built? It's not a building I've ever particularly noticed, but it isn't too bad looking. Also, I realise it was mentioned a while ago, but does anyone know what exact year the Earl of Zetland closed? Was it in 1995 or a bit later? I wonder why they felt the need to ruin that facade.

I'm guessing the building you mention is the old SA Police HQ. The building was originally built in 1964 as the SA HQ of BP. It was extensively renovated in the early 90s, and again recently.slenderman wrote:Nice picture. Thanks Will and Howie. I'm not sure of the extent of these renovations you speak of, but its a good example of 1960s architecture. Do either of you happen to know the year the Earl of Zetland closed? Was it in 1995 or a few years later? Cheers. I apologise for derailing the thread slightly.

Excuse the ordinary photo, but here's an update from today. You can just see the glazing stacked ready for installation on level 2. Also, you can notice the difference in floor height post level 2 also.

Thanks for the update. A good little density filler.

The glazing is now being installed, hard to pic it up in the photos but it's a really dark blue, looks nice.

Update from Tuesday. The Core is now taller than the neighbouring Santos HQ and I'm quite impressed with the quality of the facade.

Shot from behind the site (apologies for the blinds, they really do spoil a nice view). Is it usual for cranes to be entombed in the floor plates like that? I guess they use the resulting gap for cable risers or something.

That would be a hell of a cable riser!mshagg wrote:Shot from behind the site (apologies for the blinds, they really do spoil a nice view). Is it usual for cranes to be entombed in the floor plates like that? I guess they use the resulting gap for cable risers or something.
The floors get filled in after the crane is gone.....

+1. Flinders St on the rise by all appearances of the photos. Are those lights those of Gawler Pl?
