I noticed today that they've now closed off the Currie Street end of Glover Avenue completely. i.e. no parking, no entry at all. I hope they're doing that so that they can prepare and re-seal that whole section, that'd be nice.
As someone who uses Currie Street and Henley Beach Road to get to work and back every day, I can't wait till they finish this project. It's going to make the trip to work in the morning much nicer.
Then all that needs to happen is for some work to be done on improving traffic flow along Henley Beach Road, in particular the area around Marion Road/Holbrooks Road intersections.

Thanks for that, that will be the likely reason. They had been widening Glover Ave west of the site fence last week, & hopefully are ready to complete the job. I live quite close to HBR / Marion / Holbrooks, & I would like to see Holbrooks diverted east to connect with Marion, to avoid the queue in HBR of traffic from Holbrooks turning right into Marion. Looking forward to Red Rooster finally opening, too.warpspeed wrote:I noticed today that they've now closed off the Currie Street end of Glover Avenue completely. i.e. no parking, no entry at all. Much as I'd like to see that happen too, I don't think it'll ever happen. There's too many properties between the two of them. Taking out Red Rooster and the Mobil petrol station would come closer but not close enough.I would like to see Holbrooks diverted east to connect with Marion, to avoid the queue in HBR of traffic from Holbrooks turning right into Marion.
About the only correctional things they could do is:
- widen the road a weeny bit and maybe add another lane so they can make the turning lanes longer for both sides. (probably not a lot of benefit to this)
- they should have taken a little bit of the land from the corner of where Red Rooster is going and made a turn left any time with care from marion road. (though this may screw up traffic flow from Marion to Holbrooks Road filling up the right turn lane).
- remove all the bus stops in the area between both roads to stop the busses stopping and screwing up the flow of traffic.
- synchronise the traffic lights between both intersections better, many times it goes green on one, only to red at the next one, thats just stupid. Make sure that there's enough 'green' at the right times for transiting traffic between the two roads so as not to fill up the turning lanes. In the morning peak hour, not enough priority is given to Henley Beach Road sometimes. Sometimes the traffic on Henley Beach Road is piled up back to Airport Road and there's only a few cars on Holbrooks Road, yet the lights continue to change too frequently enough to let a decent amount of cars down Henley Beach Road. This same thing occurs at Marion Road and SDB Drive too.

I disagree. When you look at the land in Glenelg North that was bought, and the houses demolished, to swing Tapleys Hill Road around to meet up with Brighton Road, I think that the Holbrooks Rd / Marion Rd circus will be fixed one day. Having a number (A14), as far as I'm aware, means that it is one of Adelaide's priority roads, and it will become more and more important as a north-south corridor as South Road gets more and more clogged up.warpspeed wrote:Much as I'd like to see that happen too, I don't think it'll ever happen. I don't understand why Henley Beach Road was never given one of those "A" numbers.
cheers,

Some more pics from Saturday, mainly paving in Henley Bch Rd and Glover Avenue, starting at
http://www.xaragmata.thebbs.org/album/c ... ley38.html
The major stuff is complete, with opening due in early January, according to Pat Conlon on radio last week. The intention in October
2006 was to reinstate the 278 & J1 buses in HBR and South Road on completion of underpass (and cease the 270 loop bus), so it
would be logical to do the timetable change to coincide with closure of King Street bridge.

There was an article in yesterdays paper with the new route changes and also said the official opening of this underpass will be January 13.

Lots of work happening at the Currie Street / Glover Avenue and West Terrace intersection. They seem to be doing some changes to the lanes, etc. hopefully for the better. It'd be nice to know in detail, what they're doing.
At the other end of the project on Henley Beach Road, the fences seem to be growing further and further out from the normal construction site as they resurface more of the road at the lead in to the underpass.

I was there yesterday after riding the H Class from Glenelg, & from what I heard on radio a few weeks back, Glover Ave will have transit lanes in each direction, & is being widened to West Tce, so looks like they are removing a right turn lane from Currie to West tce & moving the Currie median south to allow for the extra lane.warpspeed wrote:Lots of work happening at the Currie Street / Glover Avenue and West Terrace intersection.
