Your right it does have a New Zealand sound to it . Rappongi is Japanese for 6 trees and Mori is a successful Japanese family like the Trump of Tokyo. I hope at least a part of this site can be some kind of cultural hub .

The observation tower please!

That render of the revolving restaurant from India is a joke :toilet: You'd think free trade would see them equipped with some rulers at least. The Chinese one is ..... very Chinese and the artificial mountain is painful. Good to see some diversity though . I didn't realise it was such a massive site. Look forward to seeing what gets approval.

What absolute shite... That revolving restaurant render is horribly tacky. The observation tower is out of place, over-ambitious and seemingly doesn't factor in the heritage component. But of-course, some people will support anything if it means it has excess height..

Does anyone know the actual size of the site and how close it gets [at the back] to the River Torrens?
Would a significant channel/man-made canal from the river to the RAH site be feasible?
It would open up a lot of other opportunities and allow waterfront access/dining etc...

Any route for a channel would be blocked by the zoo. The site, from memory, is up to the car park access road from Gate 7 (so up to the residential wing). It doesn't include the medical schools, dental hospital or the carpark. You'd be looking at over half a kilometre to get to the Torrens, unless you went under Frome Rd.

The land drops away down to the river as well - be fun to engineer the locks, but slightly cost prohibitive - let alone finding enough water to fill it. Nice idea though - perhaps the new mountain will include a new river system once it changes the local rain patterns?

Now there's an idea!!! Seeing Adelaide gets a lot of orographic rainfall, the new mt might just do it! the whole mt thing is a novel idea to me and would make a unique impression, IMHO I'd go for the tower.

Here's an idea from the Art Gallery to make its 65,000 piece collection more accessible to visitors via an art discovery centre on the site of the old RAH. The Adelaide University would add complementary faculty facilities/spaces eg creative writing, fine arts etc.

Complete access: Art Gallery's radical vision
via InDaily
In the near future, viewing the Art Gallery’s complete collection could be as simple as opening a drawer.

That’s what the Art Gallery and its director Nick Mitzevich are imagining for the art discovery centre they’re proposing for the site of the old Royal Adelaide Hospital. The new centre would show the gallery’s entire 65,000-piece collection.

To put that in perspective, currently only 1 to 2 per cent of the collection are shown at the Art Gallery on North Terrace.
To show the entire collection, Mitzevich is planning to turn to drawers – like those in the Multiversity Gallery in Vancouver, Canada (pictured)
“All the holdings that the gallery has in its collection would be available for viewing by the public,” Mitzevich told InDaily.

“Paintings would be on racks that would pull out, works on paper would be in cabinets and drawers, ceramics would be in glass cases, not beautifully displayed as you might see them in a gallery but instead of looking at one Japanese tea bowl in a glass cabinet you might be able to get 50.

“It would be like a sophisticated storehouse that was safe for the objects and for the public.

“Imagine pulling out a draw and seeing a (Spanish painter Francisco) Goya or a Rembrandt print.

“Imagine having a look at … the 2000 works that we hold by (early Australian watercolour artist) Hans Heysen in our study drawers.

“There are elements of the collection where we have extraordinary depth. Colonial South Australian works, the works of Hans Heysen, the works of (early Australian painter) Mortimer Menpes, a very significant collection of early South Australian photography.”

The proposed centre would cost between $30 and $80 million, according to Mitzevich. It was first put to the State Government around a year ago – although back then there was no specific location in mind.

Funding would come from a government-private-commercial coalition, with the Gallery planning to access its network of private benefactors.

The State Government is currently running a design competition to get ideas for the future of the old RAH site. One of the requirements in the design brief is for any development on the site to be “economically viable”.

Mitzevich said the discovery centre would be a major economic generator for the site.
“Our Turner from the Tate exhibition … we generated 41 per cent of our visitors from outside of Adelaide.

“So just that act of bringing people in causes economic activity and prosperity. We would propose that similar cultural activity of this scale and nature would be a destination, would bring purposeful people into the city, and that act would contribute to the vibrancy of the city.”

The Art Gallery’s proposal is likely to be strongly linked to any proposals put up by the University of Adelaide, which is also eyeing the site.

“The gallery would like to put in there a contemporary art collection, and if that happened then we would probably put creative writing, architecture, fine arts, a series of our humanities, we would put with that, so that you end up with a place where there’s exhibition space and event space,” Adelaide University vice-chancellor Warren Bebbington told InDaily last month.

Kinda ho hum, boring as bat shit... It's ok if they put it an an existing heritage listed building that can't be torn down but to spend $30m-$80m for this centre would be a travesty I think... I guess depends on how good the art is but now its 65,000 pieces its just collecting dust makes you wonder....maybe better investment is to scan them all and put them on the net!
An Observation tower and a man made mountain seem the most popular choices.... But not another high school here please...
Ps Does anyone think a tourist cable car from this site with stops/stations to nearby surrounds ie over the Zoo and River Torrens etc could work or would it spoil the skyline?

Popular with who? (Serious question, I've only seen joke comments about a mountain.)

Not another High School, move Adelaide High in and integrate it with other uses to stop the place being dead during the day. Multiuse means more activity throughout the day and night. I suggest that the high school's facilities are placed in upper levels, leaving most of the lower levels for other purposes.

Cable car... not sure if serious...

Well, clearly you have no sense of culture. Have you not seen how well the arts works in Europe? They spend billions on these projects and sure enough make the return. Considering our government spend nothing on the arts, I think it's about time we put some quality investment into something that would actually make some return. I don't know where you get your information to make the statement that he mountain and observation tower are the most popular ideas (apart from your own opinion) because I don't know one person who likes either of those ideas. Both artificial crap that will cost a heap of to get off the ground and won't make any return for those involved financially.
