So the unions have started the fight against deregulation.

Disappointing they are aiming for the moron buyer angle arguing we will all just flock straight to Woolies or Coles.

Be interesting to know which stores have signed up with the unions, I'll happily avoid their stores now and in the future. Ive already put up with higher prices to support local, but I'll stop with these guys.

Didn't pass the upper house so they are just allowing most stores to trade on Public Holidays in the Adelaide basin from 9-5pm. As this doesn't require a law change just approval from the Minister. Stores on Boxing Day were open from 9am-5pm in the Adelaide suburbs for the first time. The rest of the state is pretty much deregulated.
I guess the SA Government will allow stores to open over Easter and other Public Holidays except Christmas Day, Good Friday and until noon Anzac Day.

I absolutely hate the Virginia nursery!!! Plants are horrible and I wish all flora would disappear. I have had enough trying to clean my gutters every spring and autumn time and mowing down all the forests would fix everyhing.

FFS, who cares about virginia nursery ?

I was just trying to find a Significant SA owned business that opened on Boxing Day.
When I was checking through Westfield store directories I could not find any significant non food based stores that were SA owned.
Things that came to mind that are SA owned were Virginia Nursery that I know has previously opened boxing days but starting this year it is not.
Radio Rentals on Main North Road was also closed.

All I can see is that this first go at deregulation caused local businesses to close their doors and to lose sales to the larger non local companies.
This boxing day test is a text book example of the problem with deregulating shop trading hours, it benefits those with the deepest pockets only.
